@Popcornflakes' Saying:
Be formal. Instead of happy, use euphoric. Instead of sad, use pessimistic or misanthropic. Instead of weird, use ludicrous or ludicrous. - April 12, 2017 at 5:32 pm.

My Rebuttal:
I feel "formal" is misused in this way. Being "formal", in this sense, does not mean to use more interesting words, it simply refers to proper grammar. Instead of u, use you. Instead of c, use see. Use correct spelling, grammar, and capitalization.

Now, of course, I do see @Popcornflakes' argument here. Using more descriptive words do make sentences sound better, more convincing, and easier to understand. However, this does not mean that a statement is "more formal" simply for the reason that different words are written.

Sometimes, the overuse of less commonly used words can be hard to understand, especially on the internet. When one can only use 140 characters, it becomes increasingly hard to use descriptive words such as the ones @Popcornflakes uses in her saying. Now, I'm not saying we should totally take these words out of Eggcave, that's what the fourms and mail is for, but I do think not using them is excusable.

If you do use more descriptive words, make sure that you know the meaning of what you are writing. "Pessimistic" has a much different meaning than sad. If you describe someone as pessimistic, it doesn't mean they are sad, it means that they look at the negative side of things; they look at the glass half empty. This does not have the same definition as sad. Using pessimistic instead of sad changes the entire sentence.
This is the same as "misanthropic". The hatred of humankind? That's not being sad, that's being anti-social. I would recommend, if you insist on removing sad from your sentence, by using a less strong word. Different words are used for different instances.
"Weird" and "ludicrous" are also completely different. Ludicrous implies that something is absolutely ridiculous; it couldn't possibly be true! This isn't what weird is supposed to be used for, and you shouldn't misuse words because you want your written work to sound more "formal".

About Onnekas Eggs

The patches of green on the Onnekas egg's fur are actually a rare form of moss that only grows in a very small part of Ark's jungles.

This moss, to regular houseplants, is considered an invasive pest. Be careful not to allow it to root in your houseplant's pots!

About the Onnekas Creature

Onnekases, as babies, start out as adorable balls of fluff that entirely conceal the growing infant at their core. Because of such an excessive amount of fluff, their field of vision is extremely limited. That means that baby Onnekases frequently run into objects and fall of ledges. This makes them quite helpless; they require a caring and watchful eye to develop to maturity without harm.

Mature Onnekases love skipping and hopping around the meadows and grasslands outside of Ark City. They are known for harvesting four-leaf clovers that they find and enjoy returning them to their owners for good luck.
