Halloween 2013 Poetry Contest

Yes, it's that time again! Time to start thinking about that Halloween Poem you've always wanted to write.

Rules:

1. Poem must rhyme, as I love rhyming poetry
2. Theme: Halloween
3. Must be PG or G. Remember this is a family friendly site
4. Poem length must be at least (8) lines or (2) Stanzas of four lines each (minimum)
5. Maximum length is (16) lines or (4) Stanzas
6. Poetry must be your creation, not someone elses work, meaning no Plagiarism
7. Entries must be posted in this thread no later than October 29th @ Midnight (Egg Cave Time)
8. Winners will be announced on Halloween, October 31rst after 5 pm (EST).
9. Each entry is allowed to be edited but ONLY use ONE comment box per person. I do not want this thread being used for anything but your poem.
10. You may post that you are entering the contest, but then you must use that text box to post your poem using the Edit function.
11. You may send me a Personal Message if you have any questions or comments
12. All decisions are final - I am the Judge ❤️

Prizes (**Donations are accepted and welcome)

First Place: A Cash Shop Halloween Creature (500 cc)
Second Place: A Freeze (250 cc)
Third Place: A Star (100 cc)

(Prizes to be upgraded as time goes on; as Halloween creatures are released; cave and cash shop and according to any donations)

** Anyone donating creatures and/or travels send me a PM titled Halloween Poetry Prize Donation. I will post it here with your name. Prizes must be given out by the end of November 1, 2013. Winners will be sent to your cove to pick up their prize. Of course Winners/Prizes will be posted here at the end of the contest.

Children visit the house of pain,
Looking for a jolly good scare,
oh boy what they get,
Is to horrendous yet,
the feelings of dread,
leave them awake in bed,
until nightfall has lost it's wake,
When they grow all big,
they warn their kin,
never to visit the terrorizing place,
They call 'The House Of Pain'.

Nightmare Night in Ponyville:

Nightmare Night, Nightmare night.
Time for a fright. No Sun but by Luna's Light.
Donate your sweets to the mythical Draconequus.
Though the screams are going to be countless.

Rainbow Dash is flying around, scaring fillies with her cloud.
Pinkie Pie is running around, although she is very loud.
Fluttershy is hiding about.
Rarity is complaining about her costume, so she gives a terrifying shout!

Calm down stallions, this is to time to moan.
For you are not alone...
Now the time has come for this poem to be done.
Now go, get out and have some fun!

Tick, tock, getting near,
To the time they all fear.
Halloween, it's the night
Carve the pumpkins, make them bright.

We'll let out the evil and make them scream.
Monsters and demons on streets like bad dreams.
Yes, scare them, and scare them well,
Use a chant and chant a spell.

It's time, my minions, go out and play,
Wreak havoc so they go away.
If you chase them all off, the world is ours.
We can build castles and we can build towers.

Our kind was never liked. Now revenge we are wanting.
This is the night we get it with haunting.
Trick or treat? How 'bout this:
A bloody scratch, a deep hiss.

Left

The sun descends as Halloween draws near.
My footsteps echo through the darkened streets.
All hope and light, engulfed by shade and fear;
They whisper, telling me I should retreat.

They go ignored; I ponder where they lead.
The hallway splits, one path benevolent.
While darkness beckons, sunlight humbly pleads.
I choose the gloom, its evil prevalent.

Unease and trepidation fill my thoughts;
The ghosts who chose this path before me call.
I glance around at bloodstained walls, distraught.
I vanish. Was I even there at all?

There's nothing left of me but my despair,
For never will I wake from this nightmare.

On a very certain time
On a very certain night
Deep in the depths of a forest
Is a glowing orange light

And among the graves
In mud thats pitch black
Are the relentless souls of the undead
Ready to come back

Everyone is sleeping
Everyone lost in their dreams
All is quiet
Or at least, thats what it seems

Slowly, but surely, the mud erodes
And every corpse re-animates for the Witching Hour of Halloween
They walk around mindless, senseless in their tracks
The ghosts and ghouls drift around, giving deadly screams

A mansion flashes purple
It's been abandoned for fifty years
And the people there died ages ago
Their souls are shedding tears

And at last, dawn breaks
The sun has come rising
People start to wake up
Zombies back in their graves, crying

And as the night of All Hallows Eve comes to an end
Civilisation goes back to normal
People take down decorations
And friends may be informal

But it was only the certain night
That all got us all hyper
And the final corpes dissapears
Well over the horizon

Halloween

The dim glow of Jack-O-Lanterns, flickers through the night,
Spooky bats and small black cats contribute to the fright.
Children dressed as ghosts and ghouls are prowling about the streets,
Filling their sacks with little snacks, no tricks, just many treats.

Spirits rise from the graves tonight, crying out into the dark,
Their troubled souls burn bright like coals and light up the lonely park.
Skeletons' bones click together, as they walk through abandoned grounds,
Filling the air with noises that scare, eerie skeleton sounds.

Vampires leave their mansions, a red drink, what they seek,
The night air cold as legends are told, filled with such mystique.
Mummies climb out of their caskets, moaning in restless gloom,
In their swaddling attire they wander the mire, the home of their ancient tomb.

In the sky the moon is full, as the frightening werewolf howls,
From the crooked dark oak trees that lost all their green leaves fly wide-eyed and screeching hoot owls.
The witch's cackle is loud and startling, it's hoarse sound cracked and mean,
The creatures are out, without a doubt to wish you a great Halloween!



It's finished! I hope you like the completed poem! This was really fun to make! ^-^

On a side note, I assure you the poem rhymes well if you read it right. :'D

The Night of Halloween

(it really sucks, please don't hurt me 😋)

The costumes are scary, but the candy is sweet
Ghouls and ghosts creeping up the street
The life of the party is all about scare
All the witches stroll in the chilly fall air
On The Night of Halloween

On October 30th, the fright can be let out!
All the bundled up spirits inside us shout!
The Spiders and Vampires, and everything else
Its just getting started! So let go of your self!
On the night of Halloween
