About Potoo Eggs

There is something very, very unserious about this particular egg, or at least what you think might hatch out of this egg...

About the Potoo Creature

Potoos are often referred to as "Stump Spirits", since it is quite rare to ever see these birds not perching on slain and broken trees. The coarse bark-like feathers of the creature, combined with the golden rings along its wings that mimic mushrooms, make for excellent camouflage. The bird's little green chest feathers give the creature away half of the time though...

During the day, the Potoo perches on its favorite stump with its wide, yellow eyes and beak almost completely closed. The nocturnal bird will often rest still for hours, patiently waiting to snatch a few unaware insects. However, thanks to their prominent green chest feathers, most young Potoos end up either starving or in the hands of predators. Adult Potoos have an easier time avoiding detection though, as darker feathers disguising the small green ones begin to spread more and more across the creature's chest as it ages.

During nighttime, the Potoo also perches on a tree stump, but its creepy yellow eyes are instead wide open and it opens its beak every few minutes to sing out a song. The song of the Potoo seems quite mournful and haunting compared to its freakish, comical face.
