Aerglow

Quiet, but always watching

"My gaze is never ending."

You feel a change in the air as you rest by the waters. The sheer cliff gives away to the endless ocean, bordering the twinkles of stars in the distance. There seemed to be a faint shape moving underwater in the distance. You look up and gasp. A Cosmiathan, hovering above, gazed down unblinkingly at you. You hesitantly call out. "Hello?"

A still moment. Then, the Cosmiathan glides down smoothly to rest besides you.

"...Nice sky, huh?"

Silence. You see the creatures body ripple and change between shots of the cosmos.

"Have you ever been up there?"

The Cosmiathan looks up. "Yes, I have." His voice was whispery and resonated throughout the air. "I've flown through the empty seas of space. I've seen stars die and planets ignite. I've explored suns and seas and the space between them. And it was..." His voice trailed off.

"It was what?" The Cosmiathan didn't reply and continued to stare out. You decided to drop it, and you follow Cosmiathan's gaze.

"Lonely."

"Oh." You peered at the Cosmiathan in slight disbelief. "Really? Was there nothing out there? No aliens, no alien societies...?"

"No. There was nothing. Until I found this place. Then I found others just like me."

"Oh. That's nice to hear!"

Aerglow looks down at you. He had an unreadable expression on his face, but he nodded. "It is. It's lovely."

The two of you rest by the cliff and watch as the skies darken and the stars shift across the tapestry above.

About Cosmiathan Eggs

Cosmiathan eggs exist in a very hot, densely-packed state that expand outwards into a radiant display upon hatching. Although mainly observed in a deep space setting, they will occasionally impact planets and other celestial bodies.

About the Cosmiathan Creature

Capable of creating connected passageways in the space-time continuum, a process which researchers refer to tongue-in-cheek as a "wyrmhole", Cosmiathans can quickly travel throughout the vast expanse of the universe. The Science and Research Center is currently investigating this mechanism so that it may be reverse-engineered for the advancement of space travel technology.

The Cosmiathan is an integral figure in Storticai culture, having been represented in various mythologies as a god-like entity that oversees the natural order of the universe.
