Winake eggs have a faintly sweet scent. As they near hatching the shell grows thin and soft allowing the Winake inside to emerge easily.
There is an old farmer's tale that states that the best grapes come from fields tended by Winakes. The belief is that Winakes have a sympathetic magic that helps the vines grow healthy and produce superior grapes. While it is true that Winakes act as an excellent vermin repentant, eating any small animal or insect that would threaten the vines, there has been no study into whether or not the Winake's magic actually exists. Despite this almost all vineyards keep several Winakes around "just in case".
