Hmm... what's that spinning thing on the egg? It just keeps whirling in the wind...
The Whirlmane is a lion whose mane spins like a pinwheel, even when there's no wind. Nobody really knows why it does this. The leading theories involve hollow hairs and air currents but most people on Ark have thought it's magic and moved on.
Whirlmanes are friendly and tend to gravitate toward people who look like they're having a bad day. Whether this is out of empathy or just curiosity is hard to say, but it's difficult to stay upset when a lion is standing in front of you with its mane slowly rotating like a carnival ride.
They travel in small groups called gusts and are generally considered a good omen, mostly because a Whirlmane sighting means the weather is probably nice.
