Bandini the Gestan

Bandini won't get the spotlight she deserves because I logged in so late! She will be my profile pet for less than 3 hours unfortunately, but she is one of the newer creatures that I love!

Anyway, so I'm reading this book called "Ask the Dust" and I'm not really that deep into it (but spoilers ahead if you're trying to read the book), but I already hate the two main characters (it's a love story set in the 1930 in Los Angeles between a white guy and a latina). Bandini sees himself as a great writer who just hasn't been discovered yet and he lives his life as if he is already an accomplished writer, bragging to anybody that will listen to him that he's been published in a magazine once. The love interest is his waiter at a dive bar and she disrespects him when she first meets him because ??? she's just someone that disrespects people on the daily while she's at work? So he comes back the next day and leaves a copy of his published work and leaves her a note talking down to her because her shoes are ugly and falling apart and the next time she sees him she starts treating him with respect. Simply because he's posing as an accomplished writer and she thinks he's someone that's above her in society? Like he's only perusing her because he can't believe that she disrespected him and he can't handle the rejection he made up in his head.

Anyway, like I said, I'm not too far into the book, he's a hypocrite as well because he lent his neighbor 15 cents and he judges him for not returning the 15 cents. He says to himself that his neighbor can't stop drinking for a day just to pay him back, even though he himself is taking money from his mother when he can't afford his rent because he does not have a job! This man does not have a job so his mother sends him 100 dollars every once in a while and he spends that money overpaying a lady of the night just to seem impressive. Like you can't judge someone's irresponsibility with money and then turn around and be just as irresponsible. He's late on rent, he's close to being evicted.

His neighbor tells him, hey the guy who brings us milk? Yeah he's my friend and he drinks with me sometimes. I'll give you a signal and you can go steal a jar of milk from him. He judges him and states that taking the milk is below him... which great, love the morality. But within a page he goes to steal the milk anyway!!! HE STEALS THE MILK after judging the neighbor for screwing over his friend!

Anyway it's so chaotic and I love it but the characters are driving me nuts! I love it!
