❝ WISTIE the SHAMRUE ❞
obtained from: ??? / gifted to + returned from @sarahzafirah

━━━━━ ━━━━━

as i look back on my time at egg cave, starting way back in 2011 (when i was 9 years old!! now i'm 17-turning-18!!) i cannot believe how formative of an experience it has been.

egg cave taught me to believe in online communities -- in unlikely friendships forged despite geographic distances and even age differences. egg cave nurtured me as i learned to create digital art; it developed my creative writing skills as i role-played with friends and wrote creature descriptions; it helped me to become a better friend as i worked through disagreements and learned to keep in touch with people; it boosted my confidence as i saw my site suggestions and ideas realized; it fostered my leadership skills as i created the dreamer's guild; it gave me a better sense of currency, values, and trading. i made mistakes during my time here (two that stand out to me are 1. plagiarizing a creature suggestion from a different adoptables site when i first joined.. yikes! and 2. betraying someone's trust and generosity by trading away two tines that were given to me when a user quit), but in the process i learned and grew.

though i was not here for the official creature re-release discussion, reading through the forum now, i find both sides represented very relevant. in particular, the argument that older users got lucky and were here when desirable creatures were first released, so that they had the opportunity to build coves worth far more than that any new user can hope to obtain, feels resonant. in real life, my generation is inheriting a world with a climate on the brink of collapse, an economy many cannot hope to succeed in, twisted and volatile politics... it's frustrating to know that my experiences and opportunities will be limited by the time i was born in, which is something i had no control over. i don't mean to take a particularly serious stance on creature re-release; i don't really care, and i think it's important to recognize that these are pixels on a screen, which shouldn't be costing anyone hundreds or thousands of dollars in real life. but speaking as an 'oldie' who was able to obtain my dreamies and a cove that i cherish, i don't think other people are less deserving of the opportunity to do the same just because they arrived a little late to the party. sure, creature values might be disturbed at first, but people will come and go and the creatures that are genuinely popular will still be valued highly.

anyways, this wasn't meant to be part of a debate but rather, a reflection on my time at egg cave and what i've learned. ec has been one of the bright spots and safe spaces in my life, and i'm infinitely grateful that i grew up on this site. and it all started with wistie here! i was a lil newbie and i saw the shamrue and fell in love -- it was my first dreamie ever. i attempted to trade up for a while and eventually convinced my parents to buy cavecash so that i could straight-up buy her from someone (there were more shamrues uft at the time and she was only worth 3000cc! how the times have changed). i later named her 'wistie', a name related to neopets, another online community that shaped my childhood. so to me, she represents so much about my online experience growing up! the tenderness i feel for this adorable mouse is ridiculous but i think she literally represents the soft spot i will always have for egg cave.

egg cave, thank you so much to everything you have been for me.

xoxo

(edit: 22/3/2020 thank you for the time together! now, you should go back to who you really belong to. ❤️ - @sarahzafirah) (edit 2: sarah, my first ec friend who has stuck with me through hiatuses and everything, thank you for letting me take wistie back ❤️ love you long time)

About the Shamrue Creature

Shamrues are a small, mouse-like creature. Oftentimes you'll see Shamrue acting like leprechauns. If you happen to be lucky enough to see one, be sure to try and catch it as soon as possible, because it is rumored that you might end up with some extra EC!
