About Fudaki Eggs

Hmm... this egg seems to have a piece of paper with a marking on it. What could it mean?

About the Fudaki Creature

Long ago, a wandering priest pasted a protective ofuda onto a shrine gate to keep mischievous spirits away. After a hundred years of rain, lantern smoke, and whispered prayers, the charm peeled itself free one windy night and walked off on its own. That was the first Fudaki.

A Fudaki's body is made of layered talismans, their brushstroke characters shifting with its mood. When calm, they read as simple blessings; when startled, the ink swirls into jagged script, and the creature flattens itself against a wall, hoping to be mistaken for an ordinary charm.

Though created to ward off yokai, Fudaki have become something of a yokai themselves, which they find very confusing. Keepers should never let one near an open window on a breezy day.

A well-loved Fudaki will sometimes leave a small paper charm on its keeper's pillow, said to bring peaceful dreams, or at least keep the kettle from wandering off.
