You can also remove the white background from your default creature by clicking NO on the 2nd option under Profile Settings.

You can do this when their happiness drops to a dangerous level. Or just give them all 60 days.

You can put your creatures at TIMS for 1 day to fill up their happiness and then click refund to get a percentage of ec back.
