Glitch Report on 13 June

Site Glitches

Yesterday, a developer attempted to restore a database backup from 1 June 2017 to consult older site data but some of the backup data was accidentally restored to our live, active production database instead of a separate database. A small amount of data was overwritten. This gave the appearance of things "rolling back" to a previous state or going missing.

We sincerely apologize for this mistake. This was due to the execution of an incorrect command.

Areas Affected

  • Auctions
  • Blog posts and comments
  • Users you've blocked
  • Cove list data
  • A very small number of creatures in Auctions (<30 creatures)

No other areas, to our knowledge, were affected (including things like your trades, EC, CC, profiles, forums, or wall posts).

Action Taken

Once we knew that some data was overwritten by the old backup, we immediately consulted our most recent backup (which thankfully was minutes before this occurred) and restored the missing data. Virtually everything to our knowledge was restored to its correct state within 10 minutes while the site was down for maintenance.

Ensuring This Doesn't Happen Again

Moving forward, we will no longer be using our production database servers to house and/or restore old backups. From now on, they will always be located on different servers. This will completely remove the possibility of data being overwritten, should an incorrect command be executed.

Something still missing?

It is possible that some things may have been missed as we restored the site to the best of our ability. If we missed something, especially things like creatures, please let us know right away in a ticket and we'll correct it ASAP.

So glad this is fixed! Thank you! ❤️ Didn't get a blog notification though. Maybe it's on its way.

Good to hear what actually was happening/happened. Does that mean we'll have to fix our messed up cove lists by ourselves then?

lykhaos117 • 14 Jun 2017, 3:07 PM

Nevermind, got the notification.

We did our best to restore cove list data, but it's possible that the restoration was incomplete.

It is too late for us to revert cove list data now (to 13 June, which would be worse), so if you have incorrect cove list, pls correct them.

We won't be able to re-update cove lists. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. The issue has been fixed for the future. ❤️

It's all good. Not too hard to update them. Just wanted to make sure before I started messing with them and what I did gets changed. 😋
