About Ophirum Eggs

This egg was only available in Egg Cave's Cash Shop Park for September 2015.

The shell of Ophirum eggs are slightly sticky with a very rough texture. This stickiness and texture allow the eggs to cling to undersides of the large kelp beds that can be found in the ocean. During spawning season thousands of Ophirum eggs can be found clinging to the kelp beds. This is a rather tasty treat for many of Ark's sea dwelling creatures.

About the Ophirum Creature

After hatching young Ophirums stay close to the kelp beds where their eggs were laid. The kelp beds provide both shelter and food as the young Ophirums grow. As an Ophirum becomes larger and more independent it will leave the kelp beds and travel to the coral reefs around Ark. Here the Ophirum will live out its life, only leaving to return to the kelp beds to spawn.

Ophirums have the ability to change the color of their fins. However, this ability is not used for camouflage but for communication. Ophirums actually have a complex color language that points to an unusually high intelligence. Ophirum will even communicate, or at least attempt to communicate, with researches from the SAR Center. So far researchers have been able to understand a handful of these color-words and have been able to set up a sort of primitive communication with the local Ophirum groups. The SAR Center hopes to one day establish full-fledged communication with the Ophirum in order to learn more secrets of the oceans.
