Chapter 1
Why The Ocean Sucks

Xavier clawed at his neck, trying to grab the oxygen that wasn't there. The water was pitch black and surrounded him. He couldn't tell which way was up and which way was down. Salt water stung Xavier's nose. Then all of a sudden, electricity prickled his skin. Panic crashed over him as he kicked around. Don't go in! Xavier stop! The signs say- BOOM! The scene played over and over again in his mind.

"Come on Mom!" Xavier raced across the hot sand. "Dad, hurry up!" He glanced back to see his parents trudging up the dunes, carrying towels, chairs, and an umbrella, despite it being quite cloudy. Xavier didn't bother to read the signs, as they were just black and white blurs as he ran past them. All they ever said was the allowed distance for swimmers, don't feed the Wahlas, the usual. From where he was, it seemed the beach was empty. Only later he would've thought how weird it was that no one else was on the beach.
"Don't go in!" Xavier could faintly hear his father's concerned voice.
"Why not? We've got the whole beach to ourselves," he called back. Just one more big dune to climb and he'd reach the water. Must be spring tide for me to see the water from behind the dune, Xavier thought to himself.
"Xavier stop!" The panic in his mother's voice leaked out, but Xavier was blinded by excitement.
"Nice try, but you're not tricking me this time! I'm gonna get there first!" After he slid down the other side of the dune, Xavier finally stopped.
"The signs say-" Xavier stopped listening, he couldn't listen nor did he need to because he knew what the signs said. All he could do was stare at the 200 foot waves coming straight for him and the purple fins that broke the surface every once in a while. In the couple of seconds before the waves crashed onto him, Xavier wished so many things and all his wishes jumbled in his head. He wished he read the signs, he wished he was with his parents, he wished there wasn't 200 foot waves, and the last thought he had before the waves hit was he wished there wasn't Listricks in the water. BOOM!

The electricity felt like pins and needles on Xavier's skin. His lungs felt like they were about to burst, his vision getting darker than it already was. Through his blurry vision, a pair of light purple eyes made contact with his blue ones, then were gone when Xavier blinked. Strong jaws grabbed his arm and Xavier had to bite his tongue not to scream and let the last bit of air he had escape. As he was dragged through the water, the boy kicked harder, trying to find the source of the jaws. He had somehow survived this long, just to be eaten by a Listrick. Finally his foot found contact. When it did, two things happened at once. There was a strong blast of electricity that went through Xavier's body and he broke through the surface. He was able to take a few quick breaths before waves pushed him under again. Tossed around like a rag doll, Xavier's limbs were sore and his body was tired. Every part of him wanted to give up and drown, but a small part of him pushed on. At some point, Xavier realized the jaws were back, although they were a little weaker than before. With the little strength he had left, Xavier kicked halfhearted kicks. Sometimes he thought his toes had brushed against sleek fur. Breaking the surface again, he took two deep breathes before a colossal wave hammered him down. The boy felt the jaws break off his arm by the force. Spiraling in the current, Xavier was violently whipped back and forth. With one last harsh tug from the sea, he was slammed against the ocean rocks, seeing only purple fins and knife like teeth torpedoing toward him as he went unconscious.

About Crabbert Eggs

Crabbert eggs are incredibly hard and slick (like a piece of ice). They sort of have that "ocean smell." Crabbert eggs are very smooth to the touch as well. You should be careful when carrying your Crabbert egg because often times they'll slip right out of your hand! And nobody likes to clean up egg yolk...

About the Crabbert Creature

Crabbert lurk the beaches of Ark City. They are completely harmless, except when you aggravate one. There once was monstrous Crabbert (dubbed the "Giant Crabbert" - Ark residents are so original) that got so angry at a human... it cut the human in half, right through the belly button! As you could imagine, their pincers are very sharp.
