My CDWC ENTRY:

About Pendance Eggs:
When holding this egg, people report to feel all their worries and fears melt away, the feelings being replaced with jubilation and glee. These eggs are rare and hard to find, being that the creatures only spend a small amount of time in different parts of the world before they move on, leaving only a few of these eggs behind when they do so. The eggs that are left are also destined to be found by someone who needs them the most, bringing them up from the sadness they feel on the inside. If you aren't meant to find one of these creature's eggs, then you won't.

More About The Pendance:
This creature is heard of in many legends, spread far and wide over the world. For the most part, though, they chose to reside in the clouds over the ocean that surrounds Ark. The creature's feet are said to never touch the ground because they walk and run only on the air. Cities and towns worldwide anticipate the arrival of these creatures and throw festivals in their honor, with music, lights, and games for all. When these creatures come, they bring waves of happiness in their wake, washing away negative emotions.

No one knows the origin of these creatures, but all the legends say in some way that the first creatures were born from the tears of a kind but lonely Empress, alone in a land of beauty. Although she was surrounded by her citizens and guards, she had no true friends that wanted to be around her not only because of her riches. One day, while wandering in the forest around her palace, it is said that she ran across and old woman at a stream. She offered to help the old woman when she noticed a sore back was preventing her from bending over to gather water in the bucket she held in her hands. The woman thanked the Empress for her kindness, and much to her surprise, revealed herself to be a White Witch.
The witch said that she saw the loneliness in the Empress's heart and declared that she would never be alone again from the next time she shed tears. The witch disappeared into the forest, leaving the Empress baffled at her words. Later in the day, the confusion was cleared when, from a high window in her palace, she began to cry. As she watched the people below laugh and talk with good company, 7 tears fell from her eyes. When the drops hit the floor beneath her feet, they grew into small creatures unlike any she had ever seen before.
From that moment on, she was never alone. The sadness that had once consumed her heart was washed away by the love of her new friends. The Empress decided she wanted all people who felt as she did to know the happiness she had found, and so, she sent three of the creatures out to find those who needed the love that only they could provide.

Variations of the story are found all over, but one thing is known for sure: That the Empress's wish came true, that the creatures have spread love and joy to every place that they visit. Their numbers have grown, but their love for humans has never lessened.

About Pendence Eggs

Pendence eggs are very well known for the salt crystal plating on their shells. This layer of salt is said to be created by the constant pounding of waves on them, also creating the tough hide of the hatched creature. These eggs can be found littered sparsely throughout the caves lining Ark's coasts. When light from the moon is shined on them, they create a beautiful array of patterns. Due to this, Pendence eggs are commonly used as light fixtures in parties and during large celebrations, as well as a natural lighthouse for sailors seeking to dock in Ark.

About the Pendence Creature

The Pendence is a creature adored by many. Researchers at the SARC have looked into this and concluded that the warm, excitable feelings triggered by the red on the Pendence's legs, horns, and torso combined with the calm, secure feelings triggered by the blue create a very endearing color scheme. Not only this, but the bright lights have an almost hypnotic effect on people and other creatures, providing a good defense against predators. Contrary to their popularity among the human residents of Ark, Pendence prefer to live in the wild in herds atop the mountains. One night every summer, the herds of Pendence will descend from the peaks and pass through Ark City in their migration path to the coastal caves where their eggs are lain and the newborns nursed. When these creatures pass through the city, some people call it a shower from heaven. The city lights streaming down on the crystal-armored Pendence create a stunning, almost surreal light effect. Some people compare this to fireworks, but with less noise. On this day, people celebrate and exchange gifts in hopes of new beginnings because of the laying of the Pendence eggs. Some citizens even claim that obtaining a crystal from a Pendence means that the bearer would most definitely have good luck in the near future.
