She darted across the lonely plains, the wind whipping in her hair. She felt more free here in the open, the last hints of the sun bedazzling her hair and skin, flecks of warmth radiating onto her. As she dashed across the sand, small dust clouds escaped from under her weathered shoes, the molten colors resting in the air. She exhaled happily, her chest heaving as she stopped. Small grasses tickled her feet as she sat down, admiring the canyons. Her hair blew over her face, the array of colors dazzling her. The girl sat down slowly, looking around herself. She stretched her fingers into the sand, watching swaths it cover her fingers. She withdrew them and looked at the remaining grains trickling off of her fingers. The emptiness of the sun left a hole of silence in the plains and the faintest call of bird could be heard.
