About Dogfish Eggs

This bright egg appears as though it would be cold and slimy to the touch, with the way it shines like water in the light. However, try to pick it up and you'll instead be greeted to scratched hands and disappointment. Dogfish eggs have a very rough, almost sandpaper-like texture and usually require thick gloves to properly hold without injury.

Healthy Dogfish eggs smell very strongly of seawater. If this scent ever begins to fade, something may be wrong with the creature inside.

About the Dogfish Creature

The Dogfish is a fairly rare sight in Ark's vast oceans. Tough and intimidating, they are apex predators whose giant and powerful jaws can even tear through the tough shells of turtles. Despite the Dogfish's terrifying appearance, they can be highly curious towards species that they do not normally perceive as a threat, such as humans. Reports of the daring few who have swam amongst them have revealed that they can become playful and almost puppy-like, flocking around the diver with giant smiles on their face—though these toothy smiles are pretty chilling, this is a friendly gesture. Dogfish attacks on humans are incredibly rare.

A curious quirk of Dogfishes is their inability to completely flex their necks—similarly to other shark and cetacean species, their short necks are very rigid. To make up for this, their slick bodies contain rather elastic and flexible spines. Their torso's internal structure is comparable to that of a feline, despite their outward canine-like appearance. This allows them to swiftly twist and turn in all sorts of angles and positions.

Dogfishes are known to be able to survive and walk on land, provided their rough skin is kept sufficiently hydrated. However, they will never venture too far past a large water source.
