Antler Deformities
Antler deformities are a result of abnormal growth, with various factors such as:
- injury to the skull, either from damage to the pedicle or velvet stage
- injury to the hind leg, which causes antler asymmetry
- lack of nutrition
- genetics
- metabolic/hormone deficiency
- abnormal fetal development
- infection/illnesses
Most of them occurring are injuries to the skull, where older bucks fight often due to competition. These are usually found on white-tailed deer, but can affect others in the Cervidae family.
