The mary sue

Hello! this is a discussion about the infamous "mary sue" or "gary stu" i will be discussing my opinion and id love to hear yours.(so basically this a form to talk about them, as a group)

alright. i have come to the line between a mary sue and normal, a few times, but not in mary sue section tho. but came close. so heres the definition of a "mary sue"

A Mary Sue is an idealized and seemingly perfect fictional character, a young or low-rank person who saves the day through unrealistic abilities. Often this character is recognized as an author insert or wish-fulfillment.

so a mary sue is a perfect girl oc, and a gary stu is a perfect boy oc.
an example of mary sue:

name- Princess crystal nightcore of undertale.
gender- girl o3o
species- skeleton
powers- has magic like sans, can fly and do anything.
eye color- REINBOW
hair color- REINBOW
shirt- hot pink
leggings- violet
shoes- crystal white
personality- funny, kind,cute,cool, powerfull, beautifull ,clumsy,pretty.
backstory- both parents got killed by the war and shes all alone, but she falls in love with sans and they rule the entire underground. she also defeated chara, and all evil in the multiverse.
crush- SANS WIFE AND GURLFRIEND!

ye... but mary sues can look normal and still be one. like in all teen romantic movies/books, were a girl has no flaws, and cuz shes clumsy she drops her books and a cute guy helps her pick them up.
just because you put "clumsy" as a trait doesnt make it negative, like in the writing above. also your oc can be rainbow and have magic, but have some flaws and dont make them the ruler of the universe.

My opinion is that Mary Sue is distinguished from a normal character by the fact that her abilities or traits have zero reason to exist or make no sense when put together.
For example, if a character knows a ton of martial arts because they have been training for the majority of their life, that doesn't make them Mary Sue. But if they just arrived at some training place and are already battling everyone with one left foot, smelling flowers on the way? Mary Sue. And being the "chosen one!!1!, in my opinion, doesn't serve as the reason good enough, if that's the only reason we're given. When a character has been shown fiddling with electronics in their spare time, it makes some sense they would figure out how a giant robot functions. If not, amd they just know that because on the first page you wrote "iz smart", that's a Mary Sue for you. Best singer in the world? Okay, why not, these can exist. Best singer, dancer, ski jumper, Japanese language expert, hacker and wolf tamer, all at the age of twelve? You get the idea. Oh, and that thing! If EVERYONE - from their classmate to the evil archelord of evilness - manages to love, no, LUVVVVV that character despite the fact that they do nothing to earn that or even plainly treat someone like Yeep (sorry, we're on EggCave after all), that's so very Mary Sue it makes your eyes bleed. That's basically what I think.

name- Goddess Mistress Clarity Rose MoonBeam

Nickname: She prefers to people to refer to her as Mistress or Goddess.

gender- Female

species- Shapeshifter, can turn into anything she pleases on
command and can even change appearance into multiple animals and objects. Those who lay eyes on her true form will shed tears of joy when they behold her beauty.

powers- Shapeshift, can destroy and create worlds and control the universe. Is a god and can create anything with her mind. She has control over all the elements and can make gems and gold with a flick of her wrist. She also can understand every language and speak to any animal. She also has the ability to bring people back from the dead and cure any illness in the world. She can enter into any virtual game or television show she wishes. She also can never gain weight or age, those who lay eye on her true form will be forever her servants do to her being so beautiful. She has the ability to time travel and bend time its self. She has super strength,speed and intelligence and won 634 Nobel Prizes for her scientific discoveries.

eye color- Her eye color can turn any color she wishes

hair color- She can grow her hair to any length and can change the color to anything she pleases.

shirt- Clarity wears her $59,000,00 Oscar De La Renta Nafa Embroidered Sable Fur Coat. Though she can wear any clothing she wishes. During parties an dances Clarity wears her $95,000,00 Fox-Collar Sable-Fur Coat. She often has to wear large shirts since they don't fit over her enormous chest and butt.

pants: Who needs pants when your a god!

shoes- She's to good for shoes.

personality- She is adorable,cute,clumsy,loveable,trustworthy,great listener,understanding,strong-willed,motherly,protective,great sense of humor. Everyone loves her and wants to be her friend.

backstory- She was born from a flower and became the protector of mankind. Once she discovered her powers she decided to use it for the greater of good.


crush- She loves and can have any one she pleases, she is dating 18526 sexy men who were rated the hottest men in the world and they all love sharing time with her. She is also dating a bunch of famous celebrities. Not to mention all the gods in the universe love her. Especially Loki and Thor who constantly fight for her love.

Nickname: He prefers to be called Lord or Master

gender- Male

species- Shapeshifter, can turn into anything she pleases on
command and can even change appearance into multiple animals and objects. Those who lay eyes on his true form will shed tears of joy when they behold his hottness. People will even through themselves to his feet.

powers- Shapeshift, can destroy and create worlds and control the universe. Is a god and can create anything with his mind. He has control over all the elements and can make gems and gold with a flick of his wrist. He also can understand every language and speak to any animal. He also has the ability to bring people back from the dead and cure any illness in the world. He can enter into any virtual game or television show he wishes. He also can never gain weight or age, those who lay eye on his true form will be forever heis servants do to him being so hot and sexy. He has the ability to time travel and bend time its self. He has super strength,speed and intelligence and won 1856 Nobel Prizes for his scientific discoveries and talents. He also has a bunch of grammy's and is hosted on almost every television show.

shoes- He wears the finest of shoes which were crafted by hermes on mount olympus.

personality- Bold,Manly,Brave,Strong-Willed,Friendly,Caring,Sly, has a dominant personality that all females love.

backstory- Lord Christian Grey lived an abusive life until he was rescued by gods and ws given the power of a demi-god. He quickly surpassed all the gods and is known as the most powerful beign in the universe.


crush- He has a crush on all girls who he deems to be attractive. He is dating 5895 women who were rated the hottest in the world. He is also in relationships with all the hottest goddesses.

good points, i also guess that even if your oc has reinbow eyes and reinbow hair, it doesnt mean: "mARy SuE!" that person has reinbow stuff! *types millions of hate comments about oc.

Here's a Mary Sue:

Name: Princess Luna Midnight Moon

Gender: Female

Nickname: Keeper of the Night

Random: She is very good at fighting off enemies, and cannot be defeated in battle. She does not have any weaknesses, and she hates evil. She can turn into animals, even extinct ones like dinosaurs.

Powers: ALL OF THEM!!!

Weaknesses: NONE!!!

Looks: She has pretty purple hair that can sparkle like polished diamonds. Her eyes can change any color, and her dress is a dark blue that can change type.

She also wears a solid golden tiara, and it's really heavy, but she can withstand anything. She wears golden ringlets on her arms, and most of the time has her hair untied, flowing behind her majestically.
