Well you have to wait till midnight Egg Cave time (not midnight your own time), also you can not look for anything else in the cave...

@hey did you search for other eggs while you were waiting? Because if you try to search for another egg it doesn't work
...if you do you lose whatever egg you were trying to get. (no having two cave tabs open for example)
