What looks like and moves like an alligator just may NOT be that, it might be a Caiman. For one thing, our Hecuba has very smooth skin. So yeah, she does look like a very sleek, smooth croc. She is a bit of a mystery around our place. She likes resting in the shade of large leafed plants, when she is not sunning her self. Being reptilian, in nature, she needs warm places and cool places to help adjust her body temp. So when trying to locate Hec I know it's either shade or sun spots, but we have lots of both. Needless to say, I don't find her very often, but when I do I get a great big smile from her. 😊

About the Caiman Creature

Caiman have an obnoxiously large mouth but, contrary to popular belief, they do not viciously start chomping at their prey; they attack their prey in a very different way. Caiman do not actually have conventional "eyes"; to see, Caiman rely on the photoreceptors located in the soft, blue tissue above their heads. There are no optical nerves where most people believe the Caiman's eyes are located. Thus, to prey, it may appear that they have evaded a Caiman's detection, but little do they know that the soft, blue tissue is pointed directly at them.
