Mirrors of Light

It ate her from inside.
Her misery,
Her pain,
Her heartache,
Her longing for her once loved
Who is loved no more,
For the initial rejection slipped past,
But the moment it hit was the moment
She fell.
Crying, begging, pleading,
For them to take her,
Take her,
Take her back;
To love her,
Love her,
Love her back.
They did not.
They left her an empty shell.
A hollowed-out log.
A never-ending pit.

But she learns.
Yes, she loved,
But they didn’t,
And love is a two-way road.
They can meet and continue as one
Or they can meet
And continue alone,
Alone,
As if
They never met.
This she knows, and now, she loves them
No more.

For there are others more deserving of her sunshine,
Those who fill the pit with care,
And concern,
And kindness,
And warmth,
Till the pit is not a pit, but
A mountain.
And those who give back,
Those who love back,

They are the ones most deserving.
