Shinichi is a very malevolent kitsune in a The Vampire Diaries novel; even by kitsune standards. Thought this was a perfect EC creature to pair with him. He liked playing pranks on mortals, and those pranks were often fatal. (Story stuck with me even when I had no memory of ever reading the books. A great spooky read that had me never trusting a kitsuke ever again.
'The Return: Nightfall' could easily be read as a stand alone book without being familiar with that universe or the characters.)
