"Yes.." Axis said, warming her hands by the fire. Campers were still gathering around, and it was comfy and warm by the flames, even though Axis still preferred the shadows and darkness.

Cily zoned out until the new campers were introduced. "Stand up!" she whispered to Axis.

"Okay!" Axis whispered back grumpily. She didn't want to be singled out, but whatever. Standing up, she looked down into the fire.

Kauto dragged himself towards the camp fire and plopped himself down onto one of the seats next to a random girl (Cily @cqpkytty).

He threw his head into his hands. So much for a moonlight flight, he thought with a mixture of anger and sadness.

Cily nudged Kauto. "You too!" She looked around. There had been a lot of new people who had come today - all of whom she had met - and none but Axis were standing up. And Axis was only doing it because she told her to.

While Axis was standing up alone, she saw a boy ( @wolfmilk ) plop down next to Cily. "Am I the only new person?" she wailed inwardly.

Kauto looked up at the girl who had nudged him. He allowed himself a half-smile.

"Thanks, but I'm not that new. I've been at camp for about three months now," he explained.

Kauto turned to Axis and said apologetically, "Sorry about that."

"Oh. Sorry."
Cily turned to Axis. "No, but all the others are NOT STANDING UP and I'm not even sure they're at Campfire. Which means they're in trouble."

Another call for the rest of the new kids came. "Annibelle? Adrastea? Asher?"

"Maybe they got eaten by monsters," Kauto joked. He looked around, scanning the campers. He picked up a marshmallow and stabbed it with a stick. Then he poked it into the orange campfire and roasted it.

"Or maybe they busy somewhere else," Kauto continued.

He plucked the now-cooked marshmallow off his stick and through it into his mouth.

"Hungry?" Kauto asked, with his mouth full. He offered Cily a marshmallow.

Cily stuck the mallow onto a stick and held it over the fire. "Look, I'm roasting you alive," she laughed.

Argentum was at the campfire. She had just been appointed as the lieutenant of Artemis, but she wasn't becoming a camper, so she stayed seated. Her hunting falcon and her wolf were safely inside her cabin.

Axis took Kauto's apology well, and set off roasting marshmallows with the rest of the campers. The sweet marshmallows were so good after the stressful day.

(( @cqpkytty I have read the whole series. 😃 And yes, I understand that it was never mentioned that the campers roasted food over the fire. But then again, it was never mentioned that the campers couldn't roast food. 😸 ))

The fire glowed a brilliant orange and Kauto could feel the heat of the flames against his skin. He sighed contentedly, wishing that this peaceful moment would never end.

"Let's sing a campfire song altogether!" He suddenly cheered. Kauto was met with a few groans from some campers but it didn't faze him.

She wondered why she had said some of the things that she did. Maybe it was to make sure that Kauto didn't get too close to her. Adrastea had never had any pleasent experience dealing with humans as far as she had explored. Kauto seemed different though, as if he really wanted to help her....

Walking towards everyone else as the campfire blazed, he approached Kit. Putting his arm around her he sat next to her and smiled.
"Hey," Asher said, "How's it going?"

The campfire is a nightly meeting (introducing new campers, a quest, etc.). When the business part is over, we all sing. 😊

Hey guys, I'm going to be out of country from Dec 20 till Jan 20 and cut off from the internet. So I won't be online on Eggcave during that time period.
During that time, my character could be away with his mortal parent or something. 😉

She listened in the darkness as she settled into the woods for the night. It was relatively warm and she felt good inside. Adrastea decided that eating could wait and as she listened to the music she could feel herself relaxing, the stress that had been building up start to evaporate and her mind began to wind down and rearrange itself mentally until she had a clear picture of what was inside her head.
