Is there a simplier easier way of learning '## is #% of what number?'or '## is what percent of ##?'# = insert number (you insert random. XD)My honor teacher teaches this the hard way which I'm not too steady on.
duchess • 12 December 2011 at 11:24 PM
@trishTake the first number and divide it by the second, then multiply by 100. That's you you find out what the first number is as a percentage of the second,Eg.What percentage of 4 is 2?2/4 x 100=50%Hope that helps
trish • 12 December 2011 at 11:27 PM
@duchess What about um, like, 62 is 90% of what number?
duchess • 12 December 2011 at 11:28 PM
@trishIf 62=90%, then divide 62 by 90 to find 1%. Then multiply by 100 to find the number.

@TrishWhat grade are you in? *facepalm*
trish • 12 December 2011 at 11:35 PM
@duchess Is there another way with the fractions? I'm very confused.
duchess • 12 December 2011 at 11:37 PM
@trish, Sorry, what do you mean? If you could give an example problem, I could help you solve it.

@Trish67% of 9067/100=n/10067 times 90 = 100 times n6030 = 100n6030/100 = 100n/100 {Divide each side by 100}67% of 90 is 60.3COMPLICATED, HUH? XD
icymuffin • 12 December 2011 at 11:42 PM
Mmm? 62 is 90% of a number...62/n = 90/100 (which stands in for 90%, n=## )-> Cross multiply-> 62 x 100 = 90 x n-> 6200 = 90 x n-> 6200/90 = n-> 68.888888... = nCheck: 62/68.8888.... = .89999 = .9 = 90%Yah? o^o That's how I learned it...
Dont looky.Double post.

@chloekins I'd understand, but my eyesight is so poor I have to eat a carrot to improve it by a few degrees. XD Then again, my table is too distracting. XP@icymuffin Thanks.(: I understand, it's just hard to see what my teacher is doing since I'm in the back & she won't move me. T-T

@trishYou too? *highfives*And when that's not the problem, I start doodling. x3
trish • 13 December 2011 at 12:10 AM
@chloekins Carrots disgust me. And I also missed two days of that lesson due to something else. đ

@trishHave you learned algebra yet? You can translate those sentences pretty easily into algebra and solve from there. For example, 62 is 90% of what number? turns to 62 = .9x . When you're translating like that, "is" means equals sign, "of" means multiplication, and "what number" means a variable, like x.

@trishO_O62 = 0.9 X.:. X = 62 x 10/9 = Answer. đ So.... if the question is 983 is 67% of n and you were told to find n, the working out would be :963 = 0.67 N .:. N = 963 x 100/67 đ = 963/1 x 100/67 (cross stuff out if you can) = Answer đIt's not really diificult if you know how to do it and you don't mess up the calculation like me đ
zafeyry • 13 December 2011 at 6:22 AM
I know how to do it the Algebra way!62=.9xDivide both by .962 (division sign) .9 = x68.8(8 is repeating) = xCheck, because I'm most likely wrong.62=68.8(repeating) times .962=62I got it right đ

@trishI have the same solution as @zafeyry đ¸62=.9x [x as a certain unknown number]62/.9 = x [division property]68.89 = x [round off]check:68.89 * 9 = 6262 = 62 [true]
