At the Gathering, Minnowstar brought the other three leaders aside. She told them of Streampaw's discoveries, and they came to an agreement.

Minnowstar stepped up with an announcement. "Two cats from my clan, Streampaw and Foxfur, made a discovery." She was careful not to say what it was, since they had decided it would be a matter between the leaders and searchers of each clan alone. "This has led me, Nightstar, Squirrelstar, and Whitestar to make a decision - from now on, there will be another position: that of searcher - and of course, his or her apprentice. The searcher's apprentice will have the suffix 'search'. The purpose of the searchers is thus: Every three moons, they will go on a moon-long search and attempt to discover something." She paused. "The searcher for RiverClan will be Foxfur; her apprentice will stay her apprentice, becoming Streamsearch." She cleared her throat, then gave the more routine announcements. The other leaders followed suit, each giving the names of the searcher and apprentice before the other news.

Streamsearch was so excited! She had had NO idea this was coming, and WOW! She wasn't just another apprentice anymore - she was SPECIAL! She grinned.
