Well my dogs ran away for two days and came back with ticks. I am scared that they are gonna give them to us! Can that happen? My dogs saw the vet today and they had alot of 'Bush Ticks' HELP!Can we get ticks from them? They are dropping ticks all over the house! We are vacuming everywhere. But they just keep coming! Should we keep them outside? :[@Smilies@Lennyangle@Icymuffin@Cafe@Dionaea

I don't know much about ticks, but I think it might be the best idea for now if you can until you can get rid of the ticks. If they start getting all over the house, they can start laying eggs everywhere and it only seems that it could get worse...Since they're already small and all, their eggs can't be any easier to spot. And plus the fact that they do feed on human blood and are kinda problematic to remove. ><"

Make sure you remove all you can find (I'm surprised the vet didn't do that), vacuming seems like a good idea alright, also make sure to check yourself every day, just in case. If you put them outside you're just moving the problem, cause the ticks will end up in your backyard, where you can still get them from. I'd keep your dogs confined to one room if I were you, makes the job of keeping clean easier. I think it's best to kill any ticks you find too, also the vacumed ones or make sure to dispose of em well away from your house...If you do get bitten by a tick use special tweezers to remove em and pay attention to any changes in the area of the bite and if you get sick after being bitten by a tick (even months after) be sure to mention to your doctor that you were bitten, some of them carry diseases. I think the risk of disease is lower in Australia though 😊EDIT: Do you have a garage or something where you can keep em?

I just got the pingMy dogs get ticks all the time. First, remove all ticks you find [As @Dionaea said] We flush them; ticks can crawl out the trash - but not the septic system. For removing ticks on dogs, it's okay to remove with your fingers if you know how to; if not, use tweezers. Make sure you get all the tick out, as their jaw locks into place and can stay when removed [Like a bee sting]Same for people, and I'd suggest putting some medicine on the area just to be safe; like Bernadine +.Also, as Dionaea said, keep them confined to one area. Best would be a tiled floor. Like a bathroom, or the kitchen. That way you can see any dropped ticks, or dropped eggs. Also, to help with ticks on the dogs; go to a petstore, they should be in any petstore really, and buy the once a month flea and tick stuff. [Unless you already have. Don't want to double dose.]Baths. Baths are good. If you guy the special soap for fleas and ticks, you can leave it on for a little bit and let the medicine take affect. And when you rinse the dog off, some of the ticks will be dead and just fall off. Don't put them outside. They'll just get more bugs, unless you put the medicine on them to kill any bugs that hop onto them.

@plushieYou should also pick up some tick/pest spray and give your house a quick going over. Check your dogs for ticks everyday and carefully remove all you find. A good idea is to flush them or put them in a pickle jar or something. When removing them be sure you get the head. If you remove the body and leave the head the chances for infection greatly increase and as dionaea said, keep on eye on both your dogs' health and yours for any changes that could signal trouble. You should be able to pick up a special spray at walmart or even a hardware store. I would also make sure to get your dogs some sort of protection from ticks- like Frontline- to help prevent them from causing this kind of problem in the future.
