I need glasses. ^^

I went to an eye doctor at 10 am today.

I have a prescription for long-distance glasses, I think. I picked 'em out and I should get them some time this week.

My left eye is a little bit weaker than my right eye.

So yeah.

That's my life. And you?

@Cafe
@Pheonixfox

I just grabbed my prescription. This is what it says:

Right Eye: Sphere; 100 *a line over the one* Cylinder; DS
Left Eye: 150 *with a line over the one again* Cylinder; 25 *two with a line over it* Axis; I'm not sure if it says 0/5 or 015.

Then there's a checklist with boxes under neath and "polycarbonate" is checked off.

But I have no idea what any of it means. o3o

My mom wants me to get lasik, but I'm only 16 [17 next month] so I'm a bit away from there

I was to get a Shetland pony as a seeing eye horse

@dreamer

Polycarbonate is just the glass they're using for your classes

@dreamer I'm not entirely familiar with the terminology, but the (-)1 / (-)1.5 is the strength of your prescription, cylinder is the shape of lenses they will use for your glasses, and axis is astigmatism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyeglass_prescription#Lens_power

Are you near-sighted or far-sighted? (Can you see better close up or far away?)

@Phoenixfox I'm far-sighted. I can see close, but say I'm reading the board at school. Everyone else can see it, and I just see a big blurry blob of whatever colored marker it's written in.

That makes sense. X3 I'll see what happens once I get the glasses and put them on. They said they'd be ready in 4 to 7 *business* days, but they usually don't take that long.

@dreamer

That would actually be considered near-sighted. You can see near, but not far away. Far-sighted is when you can see objects far in the distance, but not near your face.

My mom is far-sighted and can see a bird in a tree but not read the book she's holding without glasses.

I am near-sighted and so blind that without my glasses I couldn't read a book unless it is literally 3 inches from my face.

@Phoenixfox

Same here
My mom has to have reading glasses with her contacts.
I have to have a book basically touching my nose to be able to read it

My mom took one look out my glasses and, without missing a beat, said "You're getting surgery when you're old enough" xD No, "Do you want surgery" or "You should think about surgery". Made me giggle

Lol, Nice!! My dad got Lasik when the technology was new. I have gotten tested for Lasik and they said, because of my astigmatism, I was not a good candidate. I'm looking for someone to do PRK because the whole membrane flap and razor blade close to my eye freaks me out. I'd rather just have the laser go through the membrane and leave it intact.

@Phoenixfox

Same, I'd rather have the laser. I can't sit there and watch a knife touch my eye without sedation. I'd be up and out of that chair in five seconds flat.

Though my dad wants me to consider the one where they cut your eye and put a "contact" inside, and when my vision gets worse, all they do it switch the "contact" instead of only being able to get laser surgery once.

@dreamer I have contacts 😊
Because glasses looked bad on me ^^"

@cafe
@phoenixfox
Um, EW. I just... NO WAY >< Laser eye surgery, maybe, but my mum is convinced if I have it it'll screw up on me XD
And THEN I guess I'd be allowed a dog... But it wouldn't be the small terrier kind I like X3
Anyway, I kind of like contacts, so I don't think i'll bother 😋

@cafe I never heard of the "internal contact" It has just recieves a nickname ^^

@asi I like contacts, they've just gotten so expensive. X_X I don't want to have to worry about trying to find my way to the bathroom to put them in or putting my glasses down to do makeup and losing them in front of my face XD. I had to get my daughter to help me find them. I'm just glad i couldn't see her face because they were right where I set them down.

@Phoenixfox Yeah, I don't exactly know the costs (parents paying X3) but I know they aren't cheap ._. I got monthly's, so....
Anyway, with laser eye surgery, isn't it smart to wait until like, your eyes stop developing or whatever? Because otherwise you have to get it redone every so many years :?

phoenixfox • 9 March 2012 at 1:48 PM

@asi Yes, it is best for your eyes to stop developing first. I think mine have reached their peak ^^;;

But as far as costs go: $360/ per year for my kind of contacts if I can get them at a discounted rate.

$200/ per pair of glasses

$1,800+/ per eye for Lasik.

After approximately 10 years Lasik and contact costs equate.

Plus the liberty to just wake up and SEE versus stumbling around trying to find my glasses right next to me, losing a contact, or buying solution. I think it's well worth the up front cost involved 😃

@asi Yep! As soon as I slow down enough to take a few days to recover from the surgery. Meaning no computer for a few days. I think I can live. 😊

Ha.

Compared to you guys, I'm an eye weakling. X'D

-100 right, -150 right.

And most of you guys are like 2-400. O_o

My vision might get a little worse when I'm older. My mom got glasses in the fourth grade, so I managed to hang on for a few years longer. X3

The doctors said that my sister could get glasses i f she wanted them, because they'd improve her vision a *little*. She didn't want them though.

When I was little I wanted glasses, but I didn't need them. Now I need them and I'm back and forth between wanting and not wanting. xD

I might have to get glasses but I don't really care. I get headaches a lot and my mom says it's probably cause I can't see as well. DX

I've been wearing glasses since like... 4th grade? I loved them at first. Putting them on... I saw details I hadn't noticed before it was wonderful. Like seeing each leaf and noticing the details on them. And each blade of grass. 😋

I am near sighted. I'm sick of glasses though, people tell me to get contacts but I'm still a bit reluctant >.>
