RANT #5: Neopets

One of the biggest major worldwide virtual pet sites ever known, as some of you may already know. It has been my addiction when I was at the age of six, my first account had lasted until I turned twelve due to some misunderstanding between me and one of my best friends. My friend loved bombing me with random stuff on their such as Plushies for my gallery, Codestones for me to sell, books for my Neopets, and sometimes even dung just to mess with me.

Though one day we had been mistaken for the same user "cheating", therefore I had lost my account as well as hers, I had contacted the TNT staff with a brief explaination, I waited for several days and had not gotten one single response, so I had no choice but to move on and create a new account.

I'll admit I was a big noob, I was the type that easily flipped out, over use of exclamation points, chat speak, etc. but I had made many friends on that site that were more mature than I was, but they had accepted me.

In my eyes, Neopets is one of the worst virtual pet sites. I'll be completely honest about that, even though I still go on it at times. There was a time when I drew a picture of Simba from the Lion King, I drew the picture using Paint and decided I'd share for some critiques, but then a user decided to come on in and bash on me.

I would've expected for someone to say something mean eventually but it was more like, "She did not draw that, she just copied it off of Google.", users believed him and they all began to bash on me.

Few weeks later I was on another thread explaining how I'm Cambodian, the same user who had bashed on me before came in and started saying that I was lying and that I'm not Cambodian and everyone joined in and started making fun of me, so at that point I officially hated Neopets, I replied, "Fine. If that's how everyone is going to treat me I guess I'm not going to give away my something-doll!" (forgot what doll it was but it was pricey). That user and the other users messaged me saying, "I'm so sorry, that was my brother/sister, please forgive me, can I have that doll?".

Exactly what I had been looking to see from these users. They are all selfish and greedy.

Even today I still see users like that and it really does [yeep] me off, not as much as here, but Neopets is not a friendly site, no matter how they put it. I always feel like I'm an open target, I'm bound to be flamed.

@sky I never went on the neopet forums XD I saw them once, hated how they looked and never bothered with them again X3
That really sucks, that one user being so mean D:
Neopets just annoys the heck out of me. I don't like the ways of getting stuff ._.
One of my friends got her account frozen for like, no reason at all. And cheating? One of my friends had this huge notebook full of accounts and passwords O_o I don't know why X3
But anyway. Eggcave is a much nicer, COMMUNITY sort of site. Neopets, ugh. I don't think anyone has ever done anything NICE for me there.
One of my friends had a cybunny when she was really young, and got scammed out of it ><

@Asi - Hahaha! The forums aren't that great, usually the topics would "explode" (that's the way they'd put it) once it reaches page 25-30, somewhere around there, plus there are a lot of disrespectful people on there, you literally have to watch what you say otherwise you are in for some flaming, luckily I have @Axel.

Neopets has been slow and the items seem like a lifetime to earn. Egg Cave is more enjoyable and doesn't take a lifetime to get one creature - okay, I lied about the last part, but it takes a lot of money on here, on Neopets you can't buy a pet, you'd have to spend your life selling, restocking, playing games to earn points to get what you want on your own.

Egg Cave is far better than any site I know. It's a much friendlier community and the site is complete simplicity, just how I like it, plus the creatures are far more cuter.

One of my accounts has actually gotten hacked, I have no access to it either, I've been trying to message the user to return it and it sometimes says beside the 'Last Seen' status, " Under one day ago", I don't understand why they needed to hack it and won't return it, I have nothing valueble on that account.

I hate Neopets so much. And you have displayed a couple of reasons why. That place is a greedy pit. O.O Full of untrustworthy and plain nasty people. ☹️ I have suffered to much on that awful website and seems to be the same with you...

I despise looking at the forums it's so full of stuff that angers me. D: So much cruel conversations... And the staff have barely any consideration. They'll just chuck your account in the bin with 1 percent chance of return and worse for the most pathetic/unfair of reasons...

The only good thing is that I met a small guild of a couple of nice people. 😊 Some of them play Egg Cave.

@sky I still play Neopets. For me, I enjoy it as much as Eggcave but I do admit that Neopets has an unfriendly society compared to Eggcave's. I usually avoid the boards except for when I'm roleplaying.

@Evilyowling - I've stayed away from the forums as I've gotten a few warnings all due to things relating to the forums, I've restrained myself from there and I've only been going on to play some Key Quest and Habitarium or contact some old friends. Other than that, Neopets is a scary place for children.

@Pendulum - Gah, I'm saving for a Pirate Draik Morphing Potion, I've been saving since two years ago, you would probably think I'd make the amount by now but I've been slacking. It stinks when you've had an account and put so much effort into it and you suddenly get iced. Sorry to hear Kupo.

@Wolfmilk - I only enjoy it when I'm playing a good game of Key Quest with one of my friends, other than that I don't find it to be as enjoyable to Egg Cave. If the community and the staff were to change in a way that'd make users friendlier, then I may reconsider, but that'd never happen in a million years. I miss the old Neopets.

@Asi - *Tilts head in curiosity* is everything okay? ☹️
Yup, backgrounds, clothing and accessories, that's bout all you can buy.

Without Egg Cave I'd probably be the shy and apathetic kid I once was. No kidding. Egg Cave has literally opened my shell to a friendly community, if only school were this fun. Ranting about my life, talking to friends, hoarding Yukis, etc.

I only want it back because of the accounts age. Haha.

*Agreed* Before I left I played Habitarium and read the Neopian Times. It is not the place to start your internet social life as you said.

We should ALL be glad that we have found egg cave now and we are on it now! Because the younger the site the friendlier. 😉

I also abandoned my neopets account after I came on here. I've never been really active on the forums, my fave thing to do were some games (which then got scrapped D: ) and the stock market, I've still got a fortune lying around on there O.o

@Pendulum - Ah, my username now is Firefaerie702, but I don't consider it my main because of the username, I made a new one called Hostage, I got the account in the time of the purge, my other side account is PhantomHollow.

I used to be in a guild known as Mandala.
I loved that guild, had around 20,000+ users.
Eventually the guild closed down.

I made my own guild, called "Nest".
Haven't gone on it since I first made it.

@Dionaea - I used to be really active on the site only because I was trying to earn myself a Draik Morphing Potion, at the same time I had been on another site, I discovered this site while clicking through Yarolds and I was very surprised on how much this site had changed since I last gone on, I wasn't able to comprehend whether this had been the site I was last on, I remembered my old account name (@Fate) and it logged me in.

Once in a while I still go on to work on saving up on the Morphing potion, I just stay away from the boards nowadays, I have around 1.3 mill, not even close to the amount needed.

I've been on Neopets, but never on the forums, and frankly now I'm glad about it. I quite like the site, with the games and plots etc, but I guess even if I went on the forums and this happened I would not have a good mind set for it. That really does suck. Users shouldn't be like that and I'm sorry to hear something such as that actually happened. Also when it comes to an account getting blocked, I'm not happy about how the TNT handles it, they hardly ever reply and when they do it's hard to convince them.

I still go on Neopets now, however I don't have acces to forums or any real social parts of the site. However, I have encountered a few rude users.
The Neopets rules are all too strict, and these rules only bring Neopets to their worst.
It is absolutely ridiculous how if someone sends anolther person a free gift, they'll get accused of cheating.
When I was about 10, I made my own account and said I was 16. I was a complete n00b back then. Anyways, I said I'd trade my koi for a halloween lupe.
So some jerk comes in, posts "you've been reported" and then leaves.
So Neopets sends me a mail saying it's against the rules to trade pets for items and if I did it again I'd be frozen. What the crap?
I've accesed the forums on another account before, but people are just rude. One of my friends neomailed a user asking if their lupe was uft for me (and the user never said that it wasn't!) So the user got pissed off and blocked the both of us. I occasionally go back to the user's profile and she just seems like a horrible person.
My God, is it someone's time of the month? People are just so cold and ridiculous. I mean, really?!

@Lily- - I'm not into the site as I used to, I'm only in for the games such as Key Quest and Habitarium, but once in a while I'd like to be able to go on the forums just to social, not for some argument. I miss the original TNT, where Adam and whoever else was part of it, I also liked the old layout, the new one bums me out because it makes my computer lag at times.

@Dreamer - Well, clearly the TNT staff need to get proof as well as the Jerk before giving you a warning, and that jerk can also be reported for saying they have reported you, which I find sad but funny. Some time around I would get neomail from some of my friends saying, "Hey, sorry for the bother but if you are willing to - I'm not saying you have to, this is only if you want to - donate NP at my shop?", I didn't mind at all, one day I was in need of NP for an item I was saving up for so I neomailed a few of the people that usually message me those things, one of them who asks me these things very often replied back, "BLOCKED! This is begging!".

In the message I had stated, "I'm not forcing you to buy anything, this is only if you want to help."

Ugg, I hate that! Those are the worst I've seen.
People very often don't return favors, so it doesn't surprise me, sadly.
TNT is so cold-hearted. They freeze you for every little thing. If something seems abnormal to them, they don't handle it kindly, they just get rid of you and they're like, well too bad, maybe someone else will join later on to replace you who has more money to spend.
I enjoyed the site when I was very little, with the old layouts and old neopets and everything.
All of a sudden they start changing the layout around, making my favorite pets hideous, and then-- oh, and then-- the worst feature of all: The NC Mall.
I bought some NC on the first day of the mall's release, but after that I wasn't allowed to get more.
Now, on NP, it's all about Neocash.
You'll be doing a plot or something, and they'll say: "Oh, well you've finished this step of the plot, but you can purchase key packs at the nc mall to earn rare nc prizes! Yayyyyy spending!" That's why I hate the Crafting Fearie as well.
The site obviously isn't worth my time, and TNT doesn't even care about us.

Yeah I quite like keyquest too. I don't go on it as much before. I come here on EC more than go on Neopets. But I do like to go and see if there are any plots or events to take part in etc or maybe just to play a game or check up on stuff. When it comes to forums, I've never been on them, I don't go on them, I haven't even looked at them properly and I'm most likely not going to go on them in the future. To tell you the truth, I didn't even realize they existed on Neopets until now (yeah I'm a very, very delayed person) even though I've been on for more than 3 years (like I said very very delayed XD), and frankly, after hearing what you've said, I don't want to go on them. This is, I think the only reason I still quite like Neopets in general (ignoring the forums).

@sky I admit, some of the meanest people ever, go to Neopets, one of my rules is actually, "Don't go to the neoboards unless you want help, or feel like getting banned." Because visiting the boards almost always equals warnings or banishment. I've had my experiences there. There was a time when I wanted to get a Fyora Doll lent to me for the avatar, so I went to a topic where someone was kindly lending them to people. But I have a Faerie Aisha right? Well, the paint brush I used was a VERY AWESOME gift from my brother, but they thought I "stole it" So they where all bashing me saying that I was a cheater, and that I couldn't be trusted, and began questioning all my pets, the font I was using, and even my Key Quest Tokens! They all laughed at me saying: "Total n00b!" and "Where's the n00b-B-Gone?" I had been on Neopets for two years at that time! They where all total JERKS! And that's a nice way of putting it! D:<

All I did was ask nicely: "Could you please lend it to me? I'd very much like the avatar too." EXACTLY like everybody else who got it, if not NICER! I guess I was too nice. Geez, I guess being nice means "cheater" or something. Anyways, I told them I didn't want the avatar from idiots like them anyway, and left. I was happy to find a much nicer lender the next week however, which made me very happy.

My friend told me how she hates Neopets and I was like okay so I decided to check it out! I looked at the site and thought that it was a bit tacky.. I decided to join, looked at the forums, saw rude things and never went on again xP

Of course you get people wrongly accusing you of cheating on Neopets, but I guess the reason behind it is that you get quite a few actual cheaters there. So, maybe that's why the TNT are quite strict when they find cheaters. I also think that some people who report others are actual cheaters themselves, though I can't say for sure because I don't know if this actually happens. But I do know cheating does happen there, from personal experience.
