Is this normal and how do you cope with it?

Well, let's just say, I had a rather disturbing dream last night. I don't want to describe it in detail; I don't even want to say what it was about. It just really disturbed me, so badly to the point I might need my mom to sleep with me tonight (go ahead, judge).
I suppose this happens enough. A few summers ago when I had really bad anxiety, I had to switch computer chairs because my current one caused me anxiety for reasons, again, I'd rather not go into detail about.

But this is the first time I've ever had a disturbing dream stick with me all day and replay over and over again in my head. I know I would never act upon it and even in my dream, it wasn't something done because I was evil. I was doing it in defense. But still, it really bothers me.

Does anyone else get thoughts like this? What are some good ways to get rid of them?

I feel better that I got it off my chest, at least.

@Metaphor When I was younger I had this nightmare that I had atleast like once a week and it always creeped me out! I would say it is normal to have nightmares just every night say no matter what I dream about it isn't real.. I don't give very good advise but hope this helped a bit 😃

@metaphor

I'm curious... But, yes, I have these sort of dreams. I've had some very disturbing ones about certain people, where I avoid them for about a week.

Hm, well, it seems I'm not alone then.😊
I hate these thoughts. They make me feel like I might be going insane...

@metaphor

I know you don't want to talk about it, but I'm curious to know what you dreamed about.

I've also been having prophetic dreams lately. o_e

@pebblestar-nightclan

It really disturbs me too much to go into a whole lot of detail about, but I will say just generally speaking it involved hurting people I love.

@metaphor, It's probably normal ^^ I used to have really horrible dreams, where there would be no vision - just blackness, and I could hear screaming and chains rattling, and it felt like I was falling uncontrollably. Then I would wake up, and my body would really hurt.

After a while though, they went away, so I hope yours go away soon 😊

Ooh, I hate those kinds of dreams.
It's just, I have a hard time with thoughts as it is. I don't like to label myself with things, but I'll call the thoughts what have been called obsessive-compulsive. A therapist has explained it pretty well--my mind just gets caught on a certain thought and can't let go. That's the rational explanation, but it still bothers me. Like, here's a thought that's so silly that it doesn't disturb me to talk about it even though I hate it:

cars blowing up. It terrifies me. When it's dark and we're walking back to the car, I have to brace myself as it starts up. The other day my mom made a joke about a bomb and that's all I could think about for the rest of the day, into the night. It's stupid, but my mind gets stuck on the idea.

@pebblestar-nightclan

Yeah, it's hard to shake. Sometimes I just need the reassurance I'm not a crazy person...

I have very strange dreams. Not bad. Just... odd.

Like this time in which I had a dream that this guy wearing a football jersey yelling into a megaphone ran over me with a school bus in the parking lot. 0_o

@metaphor
I hate those kinds of dreams, they seem so vivid and you are so disturbed by what happened that they really stick with you 😋
but don't worry you are not alone on this. I used to have recurring nightmares of the same horrible thing :K and would wake up creeped out for the rest of the day
One incident resulted in a hole in my wall ;3
anyway my advice (not too great but whatever works)
is too just continuously remind yourself that it was a simple dream& nothing you would actually do/nothing that would actually happen to you in reality

before bed if you are an avid reader try to read a really good book, I tend to get so engrossed in the book it falls asleep in your hands
or sleep with you mommy who cares :l
do whatever you can to make that dream disappear from your mind.

@metaphor everybody has a odd or bad dream once in a while 😊

I once had 3 messed up dreams day after day D: it was the MOST weirdest thing ever and I had nothing to do with it before I went to bed

one of my dreams was about the possessed girl from "The Exorcist" hanging out with a bunch of teens in a rusty town with robots everywhere and one robot that hates everything, then I started to dream of those robots going through a jungle that reminds me of Russia...

I would say more but I can never remember my dreams as clearly xD

idk the weirdest dream I ever had but I have found out that most my dreams involve a game POV.

like one time I was running around in a hotel with swirls everywhere and Muppet cops shooting at me and I would go door to door only to find a window, nothing or town that looks like it belongs in the renaissance... or 3D zelda

The only scary dream I had wasn't scary at all but I nearly had a heart attack in my bed :/ my heart was racing SO fast I couldn't breathe.

I just had a scary nightmare two nights ago. >< I don't even want to go into detail but it involved an extra arm hanging somewhere. Just no. no.

I guess you can't really control what you dream, you know? It's already a wonder that we can dream such things.
