Is it okay not to tell your main account name on your side?

Do you think it's okay that some people don't tell their main account name on their side? Is it bad for someone to be someone else on their side? When you've blocked someone for example, and you don't know that you've been talking to their side or are about to trade with them again... the first time you traded with them it went badly so you blocked them, and now it's about to happen again without you realising...

What do you think?

Sides shouldn't be secret.... I'd like Ian to make some kind of thing when making a new account so that you can select it as a side account....

@asi Even if such a feature was implemented, people could still make new accounts and claim them to be 'main' accounts.

Besides, some people keep secret sides to prevent certain eggs from gaining views/clicks/feeds.

@sunshinecat It'd still be a lot better than the situation is now, and make it easier for Ian to judge which accounts are legit, going on the number per household... ._.

Yeah, well, never said it was perfect ^^" A note in the profile would help, but I guess there's always going to be some annoying people who just click... That's life 😋

@asi Hmm, it would be helpful to have 'official' side accounts, maybe which could be linked on your main account. Perhaps also another option for a side account which you don't want people to click/feed?

@sunshinecat Maybe a "hide" option for accounts you don't want people to see from your main, although a number still indicating you have that side, and a link to your main from your side wouldn't give the side any extra views, would it ^^"

@asi - If there's a number indicating that you have a side account like that number.... I don't know but I'm still sure people will find that side account even if it's hidden but had an indication or something.

What I really dislike are old timers who start new side accounts and pretend to be newbies, offering common eggs for LE eggs for trade because they are "new". I've been burned twice, and now I stop giving away spare LE eggs anymore to newbies precisely because of this.

@sunshinecat I also think side accounts and mains should be linked. It's annoying how I can't access my sides and my main at the same time. I've tried opening different tabs but it doesn't work. If everyone had sides where no one could access, what's the point of the freeze then? There's be so many creatures no one knows about. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it would be really different from what it's like now. @asi if you couldn't even give views to the side account, what would be the point of freezing?

@mrsgiggles The kind of people who do that now, were the kind that made a new account even when sides were not allowed.

@james-bond You can use different browsers for different accounts, but that can be quite a pain. And I thought the point of the secret side accounts is to keep eggs until you get enough CC for a freeze, not to keep them there forever?

@snowrosehell It's impossible to find someone's side account unless the username is given, or they see you transferring pets or something, which is clearly stalkerish and implementing the little thing indicating you have a secret side wouldn't make any difference... ^^"

@asi Good point, and that's what I use mine for, just for while I'm waiting for CC. But some people like to collect their rare creatures in secret sides.

@sunshinecat For some reason I can't use seperate browsers. Yes, that is the main point, although some like to store their rare creatures in secret sides.

I just want sides to be registered as sides, and a little box somewhere in the profile saying whether it is a main (and if yes a list of sides) or not (in which case containing the main's username), and if they want the name of the secret side hidden, there will only be an indicator to show that they have a side (and vice versa with the side hiding the main username), but not the name of it...

I think there should be a way that mains & storages are linked to prevent cheating. But I personally would rather they not be posted anywhere on your account [unless you allow it]... I mean there are some storages that were created to prevent creatures from growing up and stuff


I remember suggesting once that there should be a choice when you create an account to decide whether or not that certain account would be a side/storage or a main account.
That way,
Ian can tell how many mains & storages there are to an IP address, making it easier for him to know if a user was creating many accounts to abuse the cave or stealing from sides

Yeah, I suppose some users wouldn't agree with it. I dunno what we'd have to do then... :I

Well, Ian's meant to hunt them down XD I still think having to register accounts as sides would seriously reduce the temptation to cheat, because then, well, it's known 😋

Honestly, I think doing something like that is better than just nothing at this point. Anfterall, if we do nothimg, we'll continue to make threads like this and get little done while users flood the TC with creatures they got from abusing the cave & their sides.

Perhaps all we need to do is perfect the flaws in the plan & suggest it to Ian.
[ Maybe he already has reasons not to do this. Personally I'd like to know them if he does... ]

It depends on what you use it for I guess... From everything that you mentioned, no.
I have two sides that I don't really use. I thought I would use them for spares, in case I ever ran out of space for creatures, which I'm sure I will some day.

However, there is only one reason you would want to keep a side secret: to keep eggs from gaining clicks/feeds/views.
Otherwise, you shouldn't keep it a secret or keep it unknown.

@icymuffin @asi Doing things like this do take certain people lots of time you know. So I think we should wait until more and better solutions are come up with. That's all I'm saying. @icymuffin You seriously think the TC is flooded with creatures people got dishonestly? I actually think there's a very small minority of creatures that have been got in that way. I'd like to know if he does as well. I'd like it if my sides were connected to this account, I can't do it by opening new tabs for some reason. I have a feeling it would take a lot of time to organise something like this though. Egg cave is growing, only a few suggestions can be taken action on at a time. And only if they're really good ones.

I didn't say just the creatures in the TC, I also mean false accounts & users that cheat. I personally can't stand the idea of them degrading Egg Cave.

But why yes, I do believe so and I have perfectly good reason to. Course, I don't expect anyone to believe me but a small handful.

And by giving them suggestions, I do think we are helping Ian narrow down the process by presenting him possibilities which he can narrow down even further. I never said it wouldn't take time, nothing of the sort. It's just that this can actually get a start sooner if it hasn't already.
Besides, the fact that Egg Cave is growing means that this might have to be worked on sooner, in my opinion.

So why do you seem to take such a strong stance against suggesting your own idea to Ian? Afterall, linking all storages & mains together didn't seem like a bad idea to you earlier in the thread...?

@icymuffin They're always going to be here, no matter what. Just like there will always be bad people in the world. It's impossible to stop.

Yes, suggesting is great, that's why I'm suggesting we give more suggestions so we get the BEST suggestion, not just use the first one that comes up.

Do you think an average idea put in place quickly, or a great idea put in place a little later is better? What happens if better solution comes up before the first idea is put in place? That would have not be optimal, time managment wise.

I just made a suggestion. I am not taking a 'strong stance' against giving it, how would I be, I've posted it in 'suggestions'. I don't know if it's the best suggestion yet because only 2 other suggestions have been made. I just think we should wait a bit until we get more suggestions so we can pick the best one.

Now instead of telling me that I am thinking in the 'wrong' way, maybe just leave it or add more suggestions of your own? 😊

My second paragraph was in response to your satement that there are few creatures gotten dishonestly.

And that is what we want to do rather than just continue to see more users make threads complaining and such. Afterall, picking the "best" idea isn't always the best idea itself. Compromising between several ideas result in a better plan. Besides, the idea we suggest to Ian can be changed as it is his site. We want to suggest possibilites to him, not final drafts.

I never said you were wrong. You're incorrect by saying that I said that. ;P Afterall, it is my opinion [that you seem to take a stance against it]
