How can you tell what gender a creature is?

When you're in the cave and you pick one up, is there a way to see if it's a male or female? Maybe I'm just overlooking it but I named two female creatures Clint and Brycen haha 😋

When stealing an egg from the cave, it doesn't tell you if it is male of female, you can only tell after you steal it. I think. XD Those are nice names, by the way. 😱

No, it doesn't tell you until after you take the egg.
