So, I know many of you would have noticed by now my recent inactivity, despite my few posts. I can tell you the reason is due to stress- subject selections are coming through, and you do NOT know how stressed I am about them.I am in LOVE with Art, which is one of the electives, and something which I simply cannot give up. However, this only leaves room for one language - either Latin or Japanese. I'm dropping French, simply because I have more interest in Japanese and for Latin, it is essentially like French. Can you guys help me?Please don't tell me just to go with what I like - I like both very much! As well as that, you've probably already inferred that I will not give up Art.The selections are due in two days.I will go with the one with majority, and if I don't like it, then, well, swap to the other. Please help?@belilalas_25@catherineprettty@inhabitant@opal_dreams@dionaeaRandom pings.

@celesteSunrays β€οΈI like both ^^ lol xDbut I like Japanese a bit more ^^but japanese is harder to study.Latin is not bad, easier to study and its catchy XDIf you'll ask me, I like having a harder time in studying XD so Japanese ^^but (again) Latin is somewhat easier compared to Japanese. It is your choice ^^ (I tried studying both, my brain bled)*secretly whispering Japanese*It is your choice ^w^[I know, it didn't help at all]

@inhabitantHaha, same here XDLol, the main argument for Latin is that it boosts my English skills π (and I've been told my English skills are quite good π)Your advice means so much to me! β€οΈ3 It will always be taken into consideration! π@worldThanks so much for your advice! X3Maybe I should just give up Art...? π±

@celeste o3o although i'd choose japanese... I think latin will be easier.
dionaea • 13 August 2012 at 7:40 AM
Hmmm...I'd choose the one you think will be of most use to you in the future. Latin is useful if you study something like theology, archaeology, medicine or biology, because for the first two lots of ancient texts are in latin, while for the latter it's easier to remember scientific names and spell them correctly. On the other hand if you love manga/anime and don't have a clear use for Latin, Japanese is definitely the more useful one, after all, it's not a dead language like latin is XD

@celesteJapanese would be more challeging. Most of the English language came from Latin, so I would go with Japanese because you probably know less about itπ

@celeste I'd have to say Japanese. Even though it may be more challenging (really, it depends how you learn and what kind of learner you are - kinaesthetic, auditory or visual), it is more useful than Latin. Which is a language that you don't really need unless you're time travelling.Latin IS helpful with science though, as many of the names are Latin, Greek, etc.As @dionaea said, it depends what you're studying, but I'd go with Japanese. It's your choice though π (And if you didn't know already, Japanese will really help you with anime/manga. If you move to Japan... GET READY FOR ALL THE SUSHI AND BENTO TO COME YOUR WAY 8D)

@celesteI've heard that if you take Latin it will help with the SATs if you don't know a word because you'll be able to decipher it. Latin's also a dead language, and nobody really speaks it, so it won't help to communicate with anybody. On the other hard, Japanese will most likely be harder because there's a different alphabet, and Japan was pretty isolated when the language was being formed, so it's probably different from many other languages (especially English). Also, with Japanese you will be able to communicate with the 120,000,000+ people from Japan. This is especially helpful on the internet since around 80% (100 million) of their population uses the internet regularly. Good luck deciding π
