@rainbowkitty EWWW! I was eating a pizza and I just lost my appetite. Exactly what grade is this? I wanna know so I can look out for it. That would make me very grateful ☹️

@catWell that stinks .-. Don't they have an alternative assignment that you can do? I'm a very strict vegan, and they had assignments where we could virtually dissect animals so that we were just dissecting pixels, not the real thing. Usually the alternatives are harder and involve more work, but that's to discourage people from not doing the actual dissections. I would have just taken a failing grade instead of dissecting if there was not alternative ☹️ Sorry that you had to go through that, I would be mortified x.xIt isn't really seeing their insides that would bother me, it's more the idea that I'm the one cutting open a corpse just so I can look at it, when pixelated dissections offer the same education.

@zero_chaos No, not really ☹️ Well, at least in fifth grade when we dissected the chicken leg, I cried for like, 5 min. after it, so they let me stay out of the sheep heart dissection. But I had to watch D: I HAVE to dissect the baby pig, though TToTTYeah, I don't mind that. I just... Think about the animal that died so I could dissect it, and as you said, I'm cutting a corpse open! D:

oooooohhh was it bloody 😃

@catYeah, it upsets me that they sometimes kill animals just so we can dissect them ☹️ If they died of natural causes, then it would be more understandable, but to take a life so that children can stare into their bodies? To me, that just isn't right. That's awful that they don't give you an alternative. I wish you luck in getting through that, because I know I wouldn't. When will you have to dissect the pig?

@izzfred Eww...@bluefirephoenix28 Fifth. My teacher said she watched that during lunch... 😋@zero_chaos No, they just sent a camera down there. And directions are gross and sad, sure... Buut they're a really high percentage of our grade... ☹️

@zero_chaos I think when I'm a freshman in high school. I'm only in sixth grade, so I'll be okay for now, but when I have to do it... *shudders*
zero_chaos • 5 October 2012 at 2:56 PM
@catWell, time flies, does it not? 😋 I had my dissections in sophomore year of high school, but again, they didn't make us do it. I was the only one that took the alternative assignment, since it was harder, but it's better than having to go through the real thing. If they don't offer an alternative, just have a parent write a note for you. If you say that dissections is against your religion, then they can't force you to do it. I know that Buddhists are against animal dissections, as are Jains and Hindus.I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Dissection is a very sensitive subject, and the teachers are generally lenient when it comes to type of thing. They do discourage the idea of you not participating in dissections, but by law, they can't make you do it.
