What are some successful and efficient ways to do break bad habits?

'Cause lately, I've picked up cussing from my best friend, and I almost slipped in front of my sisters and parents. That's when I realized that it has to stop. So I need help breaking this habit of mine. My other friend told me to put a rubber band around my arm, and then whenever I cuss to snap it really hard.

Help?

@whispers
Your friend is correct, that is a common method used by many psychiatrists, and one that has helped me too.
Try the rubber band first.

If that doesn't work, think through what you're going to say before you say it.

@whispers

I dislike swearing, I think it is dirty and unnecessary. A lot of my classmates swear and sometimes I nearly slip up as well.

It is hard to not swear when you hear it in conversation all the time. I have to constantly remind myself not to use those words.

Maybe try substitute swear words for words of foods or things around the house.
It works for me.

Maybe you stubbed your toe, instead of saying "Oh Sh**" say, "Oh crumpets!" or "Argh! JAM you" or something xD

Either way, just constantly remind yourself in your head to not use swear words and find alternatives.

Good luck!

I agree with @stellalunagirl 100% accept she wrote necessary instead of unnecessary.
I don't really swear and I hope you break your bad habit soon! Good luck! 😸
