How did you get this:
-3x -8 -2x = -7

to this?

x = 8-7

@puppyloverlauren

For this problem?

-x+y=4 -----(1)

-3x-2y=-7 ----- (2)

Rearrange (1)
y=4+x

Substitute the value for y into (2)
-3x - 2(4+x) = -7
-3x - 8 - 2x = -7
-8 - 5x=-7
-5x = 1
x = -1/5

Substitute this value for x back into (1)
-(-1/5) + y = 4
1/5 +y = 4
y = 4 - 1/5
y = 3.8 (or 19/5 if you want it as a fraction)

x= -1/5 y= 3.8

Hope that helps 😃

@puppyloverlauren

-3x -8 -2x = -7

first take the Xs to one side and number to the other:

-3x -8 +8 -2x = -7 +8
-3x -2x = 1
-5x =1
x= -(1/5)

O.o made a mistake earlier gimme a moment...

Ermm... lemme think..

y-(-3x)+4 = y+3x+4

and

if x = 2y+6.... then... um...

I DON'T KNOW! D'X

LOL... It could be ANYTHING.

And I haven't done this yet... D8

So... I give up. "X3

Um...

@cat might know.

@puppyloverlauren OMG! Whoever pinged me totally messed up my post! I was posting the answer and then I noticed a Gobbler and then clicked it and then pressed Ctrl and then went to check how much I had and then the ping showed up and then I pressed Ctrl to see what's up but then I pressed W by accident.
I'll start again (it helps with mistakes, sorry, I go to gifted school so we were taught like that). BTW What grade stuff is this?

I can't do --v

That one's impossible, unless it's written wrong. 😋

I need help with these questions T-T

1)2x+2y=2
-4x+4y=12
answer: (1/2, 1/2)

2)1/2x+1/3y=6
x-y=2
answer: (8,6)

your first set of equation is such that x and y cannot be equal (therefore both cant be 1/2). reason is one of the equation is :
-4x +4y =12
simplify that:
4(-x +y) =12
-x +y = 12/4
y -x = 3
(now you see that if both x and y have equal values they would cancel out and result in zero not three)

Got one for you

1) 1/2x+1/3y=6
x/2 + y/3 = 6
> 3x +2y = 36
2) x-y=2

2) x= 2 +y

substitute:

3(2 +y) +2y = 36
6 +3y +2y = 36
5y = 30
y= 6

substitute:

x= 2 +y
x= 8

2x+2y=2
-4x+4y=12
Lol, my shortcut failed(-1,2)... this is why I am not a math geek xD
One more time.
I got (-1,2)?
Lemme try again.
GAH. I got (-1,2) again. >.<
Can't do that one, sorry.
CAUSE IT'S FALSE.

1/2x+1/3y=6
x-y=2
EDIT:

1/2x+1/3y=6

that is the same as:
x/2 +y/3 =6

simplify that by finding common denominator which is 6 here (2x3):

(3x/6) + (2y/6)= 6
(Notice 3x/6 is the same as x/2 (3/6= 1/2)when you simplify it and same goes with y)

simplify further by cancelling out the denominator 6 by multiplying x and y by 6:
( (3x/6) x6 ) + ( (2y/6) x6 )= 6 x6
3x + 2y =36

Okay this is the LAST QUESTION

@skylark
@twilight_raptor

y=1.2x-4
2.2x+5=y

Female
4,916 posts

twilight_raptor • 27 November 2012 at 10:36 PM

1) y=1.2x-4
2) 2.2x+5=y

substituting equation 1 into 2:

2)
2.2x +5 =y
2.2x +5 = 1.2x -4

(Bringing Xs to one side and number to the other):

2.2x -1.2x = -4 -5

1x= -9
x= -9

Solve for y:
1)
y=1.2x-4
y= 1.2(-9) -4
y= -14.8

Is that the answer @puppyloverlauren @skylark
