@illumination its true that lower-case 'e' is a variable, but a capital 'E' signifies exponent. (try doing calculations on the scientific mode on a calculator sometime. You might see *10E(number) at the end).

Generally, when you're using a computer, ^ signifies an exponent, like 10^-5.
