Site feature suggestion- Notification Prefs

Hi, I know I'm new but already I've noticed something a bit... Distracting.
It has to do with the notifications. I come on once a day or so to find myself swamped with notifications. (yes Already)
And though I looked everywhere, I could find no place to set preferences for them. If I'm mistaken and there Is a place, please point it out to me & disregard this.
But if there Isn't such a feature, might I suggest Making one?
Something where we can say what notices we really feel are necessary for us to see. Such as an option to limit who we get pings from for example. I realise that it's the inclusion of the @ sign before a name that gets us pinged. But it would be nice if we didn't have to be notified every time we were pinged like say perhaps from people doing it either out of habit or to sell us something or something unimportant like that. Perhaps have it set to only getting notified of being pinged by friends and mods/admins/etc.
Or we could have it set to only site notices needing to be listed like when a creature needs to be cared for or something along those lines.
I understand this is a friendly place but some times, the notices get to be a bit overwhelming and Then they go poof before we caught what they were referring to. Leading to taking a detour to the notifications section where it's a Little less messy but still not very organised.
I just think it would be cool if we could choose just how much chatter we have to look at.
Well, I've said my 2cents. I'll leave it to you guys to either yay or nay it or hash it out. It's just a thought in any case.
