So I love reptiles and wanted to make a little thread to share stories and such. And I think reptiles are often over-looked as pets and generally amazing animals. So lets show some love for our scaly friends. It can be anything really, how you got your current baby(ies), something you want to get, etc.PICTURES ARE LOVED!Just be sure to follow the rules and not post anything rude or inappropriate.I currently only have 2 reptiles.I have a leopard gecko I got from a pet store. And a baby Red-Eared Slider turtle. How did I get it? Found it in our backyard. Strange thing: I don't live anywhere near a lake/pond/etc. They only thing that is remotely close is a tiny stream/ditch at the end of my street. But there's never any turtles in there as it's too small. There is going to be a reptile show coming to the city I live in next Month. I'm so excited! I'm saving up some money so I can hopefully get one or two new babies. I'm hoping to get a Savannah Monitor and a snake. I'd love to buy a Boa constrictor of some color morph. And maybe a non-expensive but still healthy Leopard Gecko. But the Savannah Monitor is Number 1 on my list of wants.Oh I also have fairly extensive knowledge of common reptiles as far as their needs, requirements and diet. So you can also ask me questions if you're considering getting your first reptile pet!#reptiles#pets#shelby

@shelbyI dont have a lizard/gecko/reptile pet, but once I went to the Galapagos Islands. Oh gosh, I saw about 50 marine iguanas at once. I'm like, "wow. What's a marine iguana pack/pride/horde/etc, etc. again??" Lol.

@rushingwater Oh I would love to go to the Galapagos! The Marine iguana's are very pretty.

@shelbyYou'd love it there đ Crabs can climb up vertical walls LOL. You should see this zoo there, it had a super pretty yellow female land iguana!! Land iguanas are going extinct Dx

@rushingwater That's awesome. Ohhh! There's quite a few different reptile species going extinct. It's rather sad to me. Any animal on the brink of extinction makes me sad, but especially the animals not a lot of people really care about. I know there's actually a few species that are thought to already be extinct in the reptile/amphibian world. Only existing in the way of videos and pictures.âšī¸

@shelbyAw âšī¸ But at least you will get to see (if you ever go to the Galapagos) the marine iguanas. All of them are dark gray but some males have orange backs!! So cool đ And you can get 4 feet away from them and they wont be scared lol!

@rushingwater I'm sure I'll go there sometime in my life time. I've seen Marine iguanas that have bright teal/aqua colors on them sometimes as well. I'd have to resist the urge to try and catch one and hold it xD

@shelby xD I have never seen a blue-colored marine iguana xD Oh, and bad idea. Lol, you can't touch one. Because you have to go to the Galapagos WITH A GUIDE. Lol. Soooo...they will be looking over your shoulder đ¸

@shelby I have two Red-Eared Sliders!
shelby • 20 April 2013 at 10:20 AM
@rushingwater I've seen them on TV. They're really pretty. ROFL I'm sure. I figured you wouldn't be allowed but xD Maybe there would be some kind of zoo or sanctuary I could go to there or anywhere and just touch one. Haha. Get it out of my system.@clayosaurusrex Lovely! I love turtles.I hope to one day have a small turtle pond. Something big enough for maybe 2-4 turtles but not something overly large.

@shelby @rushingwaterI have a bearded dragon named Pattern. A bearded dragon is a type of lizard that has an inflatable beard, and it puffs up to make it look bigger and stronger. Pattern is SO cute!! Well, in a lizard sort of way. When we got him at the pet store he had four other lizard friends and they were all playing around with each other and then pattern stopped and looked at us so we chose him. He was so playful back then, but now he kinda got really, really, really, fat and lazy. xD He barely moves around much, usually he just sits there, and he can't even catch the crickets we put in his cage for him to eat, so we have to hold the crickets up to his face! xD

@sharkoutCuuute. Riiiight. I think you mean fat and lazy đAnd don't forget fat. He's also really lazy, too.đ
shelby • 20 April 2013 at 10:35 AM
@sharkout haha that's a cute story!I love beardies!Bearded Dragons don't move around a lot when they're adults in a pet situation xDAlso when they get older they eat crickets a lot less. They normally eat only their collard greens, dandelions, and other greens good for bearded Dragons. @purrclan xDFat and Lazy lizards = Adorable.
purrclan • 20 April 2013 at 10:46 AM
@shelbyIf you say so đWait, bearded dragons eat dandelions?Pattern only eats lettuce and grapes đ
sharkout • 20 April 2013 at 10:47 AM
@shelby Really? xD I didn't know that! We have had pattern for about three years, and yea, he's been eating less crickets. Pattern has this one spot that is closest to the lamp, and he just sits there all day. xD
shelby • 20 April 2013 at 10:48 AM
@purrclan I could cuddle a snake. Honestly. LOLThey like the dandelion greens. Of course not all of them will like it and will eat it.Really? How amusing! You could look up on google a list of safe bearded dragon greens and try to get new things to offer him.đ@sharkout Yep really! When they get older the slow down and therefore don't need as much protein. Resulting in eating less insects and more greens. That sounds like a Beardie xDSitting close to the heat all day.
