So my friend in RL, Emily, is a really good photographer. Recently she took some pictures of my cousin and I for her portfolio because she wants to start taking pictures of people for money, like her own business. Emily has no idea how to advertise though, so I thought I'd ask the helpful people on eggcave xD So does anyone have ideas? ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ah. I have a lot of friends who are aspiring photographers. Here are their suggestions:

1. Connections - Sometimes, you need to know a lot of people and befriend them, then show them your skills. There is a 50-50 chance that one of the people you meet might want to hire you as a photographer of a certain event their family is going to hold. Do your best on taking pictures, and if luck is beside you, more people might recognize your skills and will eventually hire you.

2. Blog - Try setting up a photography blog. Tumblr is a good blogging site to start with. Post your pictures (of course, you should put something like "_____'s photography". Don't forget to add tags! Because if you do, people won't be able to see your photos. And then announce that you want to work as a photographer, put up your requirements and all those things.

3. Online Job Sites - Search for jobs about photography that is in your area, and you might be lucky enough to find one that suits you.

That's all they can think of. Hopefully, we were able to help. Good luck.

@bluenatty All of the above suggestions are definitely good. Also facebook is another good place to advertise. She can set up a nice page, encourage her family and friends to "like" it, showcase her work, etc. I know a lot of people who have done this.

Has she taken any photography classes or read any books about photography? Although she might be a good photographer, there are always more things you can learn about lighting, different angles, etc. That doesn't really have to do with advertising, but it's just a good idea.

@bluenatty

She could set up an account on deviantART.com
You can sell artwork directly from there.
She could sell photos as prints and make money that way.
It's easy and free.

@bluenatty
Nice.
๐Ÿ˜Š
She should try to join groups
http://groups.deviantart.com/?qh=media๐Ÿ˜‹hotographic
And then submit her photographs to the groups.
Also look for some groups where it's okay to submit photography prints.
It's a good way to get her photos out there.
