I tried learning it but gave up because after a year it just wasn't sinking in.I really wanted to learn Japanese as it seemed more..phonetic (usually) than Chinese but I also wanted to learn the characters, not just the romanized form but again I just am not smart enough to learn it.
karamel • 7 August 2013 at 5:09 AM
@ryu-20000 It doesn't just come *click* like that. You have to practise everyday. Have conversations with yourself in that language everyday. Practise writing sentences everyday. It's no good just reading it and then leaving it for a couple of days; you'll forget it instantly.My parents are Chinese so they're constantly trying to teach me. x3@jemmie Wo bu shang zhong wen xue xiao; wo shang ying guo xue xiao. Wo zhu zai ying guo.(Ying guo = England. x3)@safikei Translation:"Hello! Wo de zhong wen du, shuo, he Xie dou hen Li suo!I am Chinese; I live in America."I don't know about the second sentence; I think it means "I speak Chinese and English" but I am not sure.@leonx It's actualy "wo jiao"; "wo shi" = I be (e.g. "I be human"; "I be Chinese"). "Wo jiao" = I am called (e.g. "Wo jiao karamel"; "Ta jiao Ian"). đIt's very hard to do it without the characters/tones because many words can mean different things ('zuo', for example, can mean "work" (as in the noun), "do work" (as in the verb), "sit" (verb) and "travel by" (verb; "travel by car" = "Wo zuo xiao che shang xue" = "I catch the school bus to get to school"). x3

@karamel Oh... whoops đ
Deleted • 7 August 2013 at 7:59 AM
@karamel Well..yes. I am well aware of that. That is just what I did but it still didn't sink in at all.I had several books and studied every day but after a couple of years of trying all I could do was remember two or three words and as for the characters? Nope....Of course my problem is that I have no one around to study with..I mean to have them with me physically so that there is a major impediment.But in the end I really cannot apply the language to real life; I have no real use for it as I will never work in a field where it is used so its better for me that I leave well enough alone.Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. đ
jemmie • 7 August 2013 at 4:57 PM
@karamel Oh, I meant extra Chinese school. I live in the USA.
