What do you do for a sore throat? Besides cold medicine, I've been getting lots of rest and everything but I feel horrible.

I need to get better within four days so I can go vacation. Help?

@rushingwater I've had strep throat before. If it is, because i've had it before, i'll probably get better in time. I have a best friend where i'm going for vacation who I haven't seen in a year so I really want to get better.

Well, if it's a sore throat, I recommend drinking drinks that are at room temperature. That means, "NO ICE".

It'll do wonders to your throat. It won't make it sting as much and it won't irritate it too much, so it could heal faster.

Other than that, you just have to wait it out.

But if you have no fever/don't feel dizzy and it's just a sore throat, you could probably still go on vacation. o.o

It's not like a sore throat will kill you. lol

@dramatic you can gurgle salt water and mouth wash it acully cleans your throat well the mouth wash does and the salt water takes care ofthe need of more salt in your throat EDIT I'm dealing with sore throat my self

@amelialightwing I've tried that before and it doesn't really help me. I don't have mouthwash D: Does it hurt when you swallow and do you mainly breathe through mouth? That's what's happening with me D: I also have headaches sometimes.

@kurochi-akuma My mom checked this morning at like 7 and it was gone but I don't if it's come back. Besides the sore throat I also have headaches occasionally.

I usually drink hot milk and honey, it helps, than there're balsamic candies and if it really stings hard I buy throat sprays, but if will not pass in 2-3 days it's way better check a doctor u.u

@kurochi-akuma I've been taking cold medicine and it seems to help the headaches but only a bit with my throat.

@dafni Yeah if I'm not feeling at least somewhat better by tomorrow my mom will probably take me to the doctor.

@dramatic well the salt watter doesn't work on Me ether and the mouthwash works but it can hurt with listerine DX it hurts when I swallow and speek and no I don't mainly breath through my mouth I breath through my nose unless its cloged then I breath through my mouth but I do cough a little

@amelialightwing pretty much the same thing for me. I find that it hurts when I breathe through my nose. I only coughed once because my throat was itchy. It hurts DX

@dramatic If you had a sore throat, headaches and a fever, chances are you've got the flu. Stay in bed for a while; go to sleep if you feel sluggish or horrible. 😊 Get well soon!

Oh, and if you have a temperature, don't bother going to the doctors. You will pass it on to everyone. Once your temperature has died down, you're past the contagious stage and on the way to getting better. ^^

3. When i'm not swallowing, there's a faint aching pain if that's what you meant by normally.

The best advice I can give you is to rest and drink room temp-warm fluids. Have to tried using warm salt water?

@jemmie I'm drinking room temp water right now. When my mom get's back from her run I'm gonna rest. No I haven't. If my throat doesn't get better throughout the day I'll try it.

My dad has done it with me before a lot. It works. Perhaps...one teaspoon per glass? It will probably feel weird at first, but just gargle. Its surprising how salt soothes your throat. (Or not, and I just havent taken chemistry yet. 😋)

@jemmie I know, because salt is dry and stings when you get it in cuts so it is surprising. I always swish salt water around in mouth when I have a cancer sore on my toungue that hurts. It stings at first but it numbs it eventually and helps it heal.

@dramatic I get strep throat all the time, not saying that's what you have, it might be, but I've just stopped caring. I still would go on vacation just because I had a sore throat. If you have a fever, then I probably wouldn't go. Is it just a sore throat or are there other symptoms? If there is, go to a doctor. 😋
