@XOXO5959
A literate RP is a Roleplay where proper grammar is required, meaning good spelling, periods at the ends of sentences, capitals at the beginnings of sentences, proper punctuation, etc. and people who don't use proper grammar in the Roleplay get kicked out.

@xoxo5959

Literacy is defined as the ability to read and write, while illiteracy is the inability to read and write.

In the realm of roleplaying, I would sum it up as this: a literate roleplay requires its roleplayers to be able to read and write well, while an illiterate roleplay does not.

There isn't really a solid line between the two, and there are several aspects that play a part in good writing, so whether a certain roleplay is literate or illiterate is partially a matter of opinion.

However, literate roleplays tend to lean toward more solid, complex plots, better developed characters, clearer settings, proper grammar, and the like. The writer of the roleplay usually puts more thought into it, and roleplayers often put more thought into their posts.

("Semi-literate" and "advanced" are also common terms, with semi-lit being between literate and illiterate, and advanced being above literate. However, I don't see these terms very often on this site.)

Hope this answers your question. 😊
