So I work at a pet store. Particularly in the back, with lots of birds. It's unofficially called the "Bird Room".There's a conure with a hurt foot back there whom they are looking to adopt out, and guess who the first person that came to mind was...yup! 😋My mom said it was okay, and I'm excited! Will probably be bringing him home after work on Saturday. Still trying to think of a name for him.Funny thing is, on Sunday, they were trying to push their cockatoos on me (both of whom are adorable, we just don't have the room for such big birds and when I'm at school my mom will be left with them and yeah).I gotta be careful. Before I know it, I'll be coming home with a bird every weekend.😋

@clayosaurusrexHe's a male green-cheek conure.😊@bananaI really want Belle (the female cockatoo). ;---; She loves me. We do this thing where I pet her and then I hold out the palm of my hand and she "pets" me. She also loves to put her head against my chest so that I can pet her. She's soooo adorable. And the thing is, she did not like people at all when I first started working. But then we got the other cockatoo and she opened up.😊

@metaphorThat's awesome! I like birds, though I will never get one again. As silly as this may sound, I had a parakeet quite a long ways back, and it was really mean! Every time I would try to hold it (mind you I always wore super thick gloves when I was holding him) He would always bite me...hard enough to where I would be bleeding...even through the gloves and then he would fly away and me an my family would spend some time trying to catch him.So I've had some not so great experiences with birds xDI'm glad you excited for yours though! 😃

@faerie_eclair_mallowI know the feeling actually!I currently have a really mean parakeet. Her name is Venus. And she bites HARD, like draws blood hard. I've been bitten by birds before--conures, cockatiels, even a cockatoo. But her bite hurts. I still like her though, she's a pretty bird. I just don't handle her much, though, the way I handle my doves, Tweety (the other female parakeet), and my new conure. We clip all their wings too, so yeah...that's quite a challenge. Especially when she squawks bloody murder while trying to bite you.😋We have another little parakeet, a male, Hesper. He bites too, but not all the time. Mostly he just runs off and hides. So yeah, I've had some crazy experiences with birds myself. xDI don't let that stop me from going all Crocodile Hunter on them, though (only in a gentler, I-want-to-hug-ALL-the-birds kinda way).

@metaphorWow, haha, well I guess at least I'm not the only one who's experienced this.Since you really like birds, do you by any chance know of any that tend to have pretty mellow personalities? AKA are not likely to bite? I know that with all birds theirs a chance, but maybe if I can find a bird with the right personality I would consider getting one again 😋Or I can just stick to being a crazy dog lady xD

@faerie_eclair_mallowAfrican Ring Neck DovesNot only are they very mellow and passive and friendly, but they don't really have the beaks to bite you even if they wanted to (they're long and not terribly sharp)

@metaphor - Is that something that you could find at a pet store? 😱
animallover94 • 23 August 2013 at 9:56 PM
@metaphor Your lucky to even own one bird! I cannot have any because I have a dog who HATES birds so I can't have one. One time she killed a wild bird and came in with it so....yeah I don't think it would be safe for the bird to own one, although I really like birds. One time I was at a pet store looking for some plants and stuff for my fish (who is sadly no longer alive) and I looked at the birds and this Quaker parrot seemed to really like me, although it was in a cage so I couldn't pet it. It looked at me and seemed to pay attention when I talked to it. But, of course I couldn't buy him/her, but that story shows that some birds like me just like I like them. And it must be so cool to work in a pet store and work with birds everyday. So, even if you do end up with tons of birds just remember your lucky. Sorry for the long post by the way.
