So, I guess you could say that mlp basically focuses on friendship and harmony.

The six elements of harmony:

Loyalty ~ Rainbow Dash
Honesty ~ Apple Jack
Kindness ~ Flutter Shy
Generosity ~ Rarity
Laughter ~ Pinkie Pie
Magic ~ Twilight (Sparkle)

Princesses of mlp:

Princess Celestia
Princess Luna
Princess Cadance
Princess Twilight Sparkle (aka. Twilight)

Both Princess Celestia and Princess Luna rule Equestria. In the first season of mlp, Princess Luna was NightMare Moon. But using the elements of harmony, Twilight was able to turn Princess Luna back into her original self.

Sunset Shimmer was the villain in the movie, My Little Pony Equestria Girls. She's desperate to get a hold of Twilight's crown. She thinks she is better than Twilight and deserves the crown. I know there's more to her, but i can't remember so here is some info.
