Note: This is not a topic for creature suggestion originality. Only to discuss the way the creatures are portrayed in relation to their descriptions. For creature originality, see this topic: http://eggcave.com/forums/topic/45618

So...

Basically, there's a lot of users on here complaining about creature originality. I personally think the creature ideas and concepts (IE: the descriptions) are very original, it just doesn't carry over well into the art.

Now look here -

Description: "Calla are a majestic cross between an eagle and a horse. It's able to soar high to dangerous elevations; elevations where humans would normally die due to the scarcity of oxygen. Not only can it fly and transport humans by air from its eagle heritage, but it packs an extremely dangerous punch with its back hooves if an attack occurred. Calla are loyal only to the first human it lays its sight on."

Wow! The Calla can soar to dangerous elevations? It packs a punch with the back hooves? Oh, and it gives people rides? The Calla sounds like a really awesome creature!

Until...

Meh.

The artwork for the Calla doesn't have much spirit. It's just kind of there...that's it. It has a wonderful description and concept...but it doesn't get used in the design at all.

Now, take a look at this -

Description: "Virtually every part of a Flintar's body emits a flame of some sort. Thankfully, like the egg stage, the natural flame does not cause burning, nor does it start fires. However, whenever Flintars become exasperated or very angry, they go into a sort of "overdrive" mode that causes their flames to burn bigger, brighter, and more intensely. The overdrive flames scorch and burn everything they touch with an unbearable heat. So, don't cause a Flintar to be upset, unless you intend on being burned severely. They are quite difficult to calm down as well."

Oh my! A Flintar's flames only cause harm when it's upset? And they're difficult to calm down? Sounds like a really wild kind of creature!

And, guess what?

It looks like it too! Every stage shows a fiery wolf in all different poses. The final stage has it leaping in the air and spitting fire!

Those two examples hopefully gave you the idea I am getting at. I think if the creatures were drawn according to their description (which is usually fantastic and full of interesting qualities) then every creature would be unique. I get excited seeing the descriptions of some of the creatures, but then only look at the image to see they have the same old pose like ten others. I vote we spice it up!

So what do you think, everyone?

@meta_knight_lover I totally agree! The creatures on here would look better if they were drawn to make you believe the description is telling the truth. You know... if they made the drawings more like the creature is in action. 😸

I definitely agree. Eggcave creatures really need a good spicing up. I haven't craved a creature since October of 2012...and that was awhile ago...

Same pose, same creatures- such as dogs, cats, birds, bugs- etc.

We need something new! 😊

I think it's fine to have similar animals (the dog, cat, etc). It just gets annoying when they're all drawn the same way. For example, the dog is always drawn to the side. Why can't we have one facing the front in a begging pose? :/

@meta_knight_lover

I agree. But still...it would be nicer if we came up with other creature ideas and not everything is cat/dog/etc variation. It's possible, I'm sure, but I suppose that's another topic debate. xD

@kurochi-akuma

I kind of put that on the user suggestions rather than Egg Cave itself. XD Say 200 people request a cat-thing and like 5 people want a flying-snake-dragon creature, then which would you choose?

@meta_knight_lover

Yeah, demand is high for those creatures. Eggcave needs to supply to make them happy. However, I feel the user-base should strive to be more creative. (Though...it's a bit hard with young kids.) Again, this is getting off the topic of this original forum post, so I won't bother anymore. xD

@kurochi-akuma

No worries! You brought up a good point to distinguish this topic from one concerning originality. The two topics are kind of similar, so it's good to clarify that THIS topic focuses on how Egg Cave can help in creating more unique creatures. What you're referring to is focusing on the user suggestions. Perhaps there is another topic about creature suggestion originality, no?

If I do find it, I will link it. XP And if I cannot find it, I might make it myself.

That's a pretty cool idea, but just make sure you post something related to the topic next time or the mods will catch you. XP

@momokie Totally no problem! Kuro and I are the queens of getting off topic. lol I just don't want a mod coming by. By the way, I found the appropriate topic to discuss creature originality. Here is the link: http://eggcave.com/forums/topic/45618
