Okay so I just brought a new puppy, it's a Maltese and he's only 12 weeks old ❤️ but unfortunately he's very timid, I just wanted to know what are some of the methods you guys know of or have used to help make your puppy feel comfortable when confronted by and or around surroundings.

Sorry, this question is kind of odd,
I know, but this is my first dog. Lol 😸

@fakeworld Aww, congrats on the new puppy! 😊

When I first got our dog as a puppy, he was pretty timid as well. Over time he has grown to be a very loyal protective and brave dog. I think that sometimes it just takes a lot of encouragement and coaxing them in new situations. If the puppy knows that you are the leader, they will usually start to feel more confident when they know that you are there to support them in each new circumstance.

Since your puppy is still new, it might take some time for him to grow accustomed to his new surroundings and learn that you are his new parent/leader. So I think just a lot of encouragement as well as giving him time to explore his new surroundings would help a lot. It has been so long though since I last raised a puppy that I can't remember everything we did, so I should research it again.

Anyway, probably not much help, but just thought I'd post! 😸

@fakeworld
What a great time for me to be here!
I have a male Maltese dog that just left his puppyhood.

1) Ask your breeder for any toys or blankets from were the puppy was once raised. This could calm them down with the scent of the old litter.

2) Take time to spend time with your new puppy, Maltese are very "sticky" to their owners.

3) Set down the rules right away. And don't change them.

4) Name the puppy as soon as you can.

5) Love your little puppy!

Ahhhhh! Is it a girl or boy? Pure or mixed? I know it has to be cute. 😸

@aedia
Thank you! ❤️

And thank you for your help, what kind of dog do you have? 😸

@windchill
What age does Maltese leave their puppy-hood exactly?
It's a boy, and he's pure. I'll try to get a picture up if you'd like? 😊

@fakeworld
Well for most puppies it's about when the're almost 1 year old.
You can see major changes.

So cute! Yes please. 😊

P.S. I know most of this stuff from reading almost all the books on dogs in my local libary. XD

@fakeworld You're welcome! 😊

Our dog is a Lab/German Shepherd/Mastiff mix, so he's a large dog. 😊

Maltese are really cute dogs! We almost kept a cute little white lhasa apso once, but decided not to because it was older and needed training, she was a cute dog though. That new puppy will be a fun experience for you! ❤️

@windchill Great advice! 😊
