More About the Cora:

The darkest nights in the oceans that surround Ark come alive during the summer when Cora pods return. As they exhale, it seems as if fireworks fly high into the skies. These "fireworks" are actually microscopic organisms that coat the insides of the Cora. The whales use these colorful creatures to their advantage. While hunting in the nighttime depths, Cora release them into the dark waters to attract prey. While breaching, Cora also use their colorful spray to communicate with the pod and pinpoint their locations. This, however has also been their undoing.

For centuries, the Cora have been hunted to near extinction. Poachers hunt the Cora in order to extract the colorful spray for use in gatherings, not knowing that it's actually the microbes inside of Cora, not the creature itself. It's been said that Cora were once kind and gentle creatures towards humans, but the hunting has made them see humans as a threat to be dealt with. Now that bans on hunting have been placed for many years now, scientists are noticing that pods are starting to become less skittish around them. Caution should still be taken when approaching, though.
