What is the purpose of items and books?

Title says it all. I know that people collect them but do the do anything? I see books, but do they have a purpose? I don't think the eggs/creatures have an intelligence level to increase...

Books and other items are used primarily for collecting. Using them can also increase a specific stat for your creature, but that's only by a small percentage. Other than that, it isn't really beneficial to your creature.

Thanks for answering. They don't really seem to be worth it then. Maybe if something is donated, but not gonna buy any.

It is just like fakeworld said. The purpose of items (books, travels, toys, trinkets, food, ect...) is for the item collections users talk about around EggCave. You get nothing special for completing the collection as it is forever growing with the new items.

Using an item has a very small chance of increasing a stat on your creature (EX: using a food item may increase their feed stat or using a toy may increase happiness) but this is only in rare cases and isn't always going to happen.
