Yeah, English must be used for forum posts, wall comments, etc. Basically anything viewable to the public. It's only for safety concerns I believe.

I do fail to understand how using a different language is unsafe

I believe it's because the majority of the website speaks English only. So a lot of other languages would be hard for a lot of us to understand, and some people would just take an advantage of that by breaking the rules, like saying things that are prohibited in different language(s).
