I think long time members should have benefits on Egg Cave that others don't have, simply for being on Egg Cave for a long period of time.

Some possible benefits:

25-50% off CC cost.
Limited Edition creatures ONLY for Long Time Members.
Long Time Member forum
250 CC for FREE on Winter Holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc.)
Birthday Presents (EC, an LE creature, etc.)

I think this is fair and reasonable because long time users have helped Ian into making this site a success and they should get rewarded for it.

I'm not sure when you will be considered a long time user, maybe 2 years? Nothing too low, or else it'd be easy to reach that point.

Support?
😊

I like this idea! But maybe "old" status is achieved at 2 years instead of 2 1/2?

Deleted • 29 August 2011 at 4:29 PM

@frosty Maybe a year. I dont consider myself a long time user but I think a year is good... Or a year and a half..

Eh, it's Ian's decision on little details actually, I'm just suggesting things, so my details don't really matter. ;D

@frosty

I agree with @bluegirl80, maybe a year and a half, just because so may old members are quitting and so many newbies are joining~

@Bluegirl80 @Pizza5pizza5: But that'd be too easy to achieve. ☹️

@frosty I think a year an a half up to 2 years.

We'll leave that to Ian πŸ˜‹
A year would be too easy to reach, and that's not really a long time user considering EC has been around for over 2 years.

*Now off the topic of the amount of time it takes to be a long time member and on to the actual suggestion!*

I can't really say I agree with this idea. ._.

What about members who switched accounts, or members that have been inactive the whole time?

What about in ten years? Will somebody who's been on Egg Cave for two still be considered a 'long time user"?

Cave Cash is what helps keep the site running, so I don't think it would help to make it cheaper.

I don't really think it's right to exclude newer members. πŸ˜‹

I can't really see much of a benefit to having a forum for only old users.

If Ian gave out free Cave Cash to every user of a certain age, the site wouldn't be doing so well. It may only be a small amount of Cave Cash, but when you add up all the holidays and the long-time users...

EC as a birthday present might work, but it should be for everyone, not just old users. ;]

Sorry for criticizing, just giving my opinion. πŸ˜‹

I've heard other people suggesting some perks or benefits, a bit similar to this. They're just little extras for 'oldies'.
Although, I think two years might be a little too much? Not many users from that far on ec are sitll here-- Yet, I DO know a small handful. Anyways, I've been here for a little more than a year and a month, and at that time eggcave was still a MUCH smaller community. And lots of people who joined around the time would probably be ranting if they got nothing. Trust me. xDDD

@frosty

But i think with all the old members quitting and all the newbies coming, shortly there will be very few 'old' members left.

It's NOT my decision it's IAN'S decision so there's no use in ranting to me.
I'm just suggesting a time so it wont be too easy to achieve. x_x
And if you're not on Egg Cave that long that's not really anyone's problem besides yours, so...o-e

If free CC were to be given out to long time users you don't want too many people getting free CC, than Ian would run out of money to keep the site going. :\

Get off the topic about the long time member time and start talking about the main idea of it. :\

@frosty Yush I need benefits xD

The only thing I would say is 20% off CC because we can't get too much of a discount... that wouldn't be fair πŸ˜‹

EDIT: Oh and maybe put a limit on the LEs... like no more than 2-3 or something to make them rare πŸ˜‹

@ladybugheart got it right again.

@frosty - Did you know everytime a transaction is made between you and the site, Paypal takes off both a percentage and a fixed rate? Did you know if you got 20% off a $5 purchase, the site would get about $2.50 - $3 of that (If you got 50% off $5 in a paypal purchase, the site would earn about $1.50, I believe)? If Ian made the transactions less valuable, it'd both damage the economy and not give the site the profit it needs to run. Older members might buy CC at a discounted rate, trade creatures at a discounted rate and mess up the site's trading system, yet another reason not to endorse this idea.

I do, however, like the idea of a LE edition creature for older members. If you hit one year at the site and maybe 500 forum posts, you could qualify? That kinda thing might work, as the forums are active, and it's a nice reward for playing.
